One of my favorite Christmas gifts this year! A surprise from my cousin. She knows how much I love Christmas ornaments and collect them from wherever I travel. #notoriousrbg

kspenmoll Love it! 2y
kspenmoll We collect them when we travel too- opening that ornament or memory box as we call it every Christmas is a wonderful family event! 2y

This is a slow and steady read for me. I‘m learning a lot about RBGs life and the beginnings of the Women‘s movement. It‘s a long book 600+ pages but will be worth it in the end. Find more on Instagram Westbrookreads

Checked this out on audio from Libby and it was just as good as I thought it would be. Goes deep into the life of the incomparable Notorious RBG. Her legal work was far-reaching and revolutionary for women's rights, but there was so much more to her as a person. If the prospect of a 24 hour audiobook is daunting, just bear in mind that the book itself is roughly 700 pages. :) The length is entirely warranted and an easy listen.

I treated my self this week 🍁This is the one book about Justice Ginsburg that has many of her dissents and court writings. It can truly bring out the nerd in you 🤓 Plus, it does focus on her personal life, the early days in her career, and just how she lived. If you want to read a great nonfiction book, this is the one!

I can't say I finished this feeling like I knew a whole lot more about Ruth than I did going in. The early part of her life is pretty much the same info that can be seen in her documentary. The majority of the book is a recap of some of the biggest cases she was involved in & how the court voted. The latter part has some personal details I wasn't familiar with but not much. Still, I'm glad I read it. I appreciate her and her work even more.

Lea Have you read My Own Words? I wonder what the similarities are. I read that one and watched the documentary. 6y
Bookish_B @Lea I did read In My Own Words but that one is more excerpts from her dissents, and other things she's written, verbatim. This one, after the first 200/300 pages (which cover her early life, career) is more background on the cases, how they came to the Supreme Court, how they would affect the country, the "behind the scenes" on the voting process, etc. As well as biographical details whenever they were available to be added, of course. (edited) 6y
Lea Very interesting. Thanks for the response! 6y

Starting some light reading this week! 😂 This is what I like about participating in reading challenges. It pushes you to read stuff you'd otherwise put off, or not read. I definitely wanted to read RBG's bio but because it's so big I wasn't sure when I'd get to it. Because I'm doing a reading challenge with my FB book group I decided to just tackle this. It's going to take a while, sure, but I'll be happy to be able to check it off my list!

Tanisha_A I would love to read this one day. Also, got to know a movie is coming up as well. 6y
Bookish_B @Tanisha_A another one?? When? 6y
Tanisha_A @Bookish_B I am sorry, it's the 2018 one. It's releasing here super late. 6y

Bookish_B @Tanisha_A oh, you're referring to On the Basis of Sex? I enjoyed that one! When does it come out for you? 6y
Tanisha_A @Bookish_B Yes, that one! I think they'll screen it her sometime next month! I like the trailer, so I am excited. 6y

I‘m not actually reading this yet.. but I was flipping through and there are a handful of pages set in “bold” type like this. (The opposite page is normal on this one). I wonder if all the copies are like this?

Some of my reads in progress 🤷🏻‍♀️😇 #CurrentlyReading #BookStack

Chrissyreadit What do you think of the SAT book? We are in test prep mode this Spring. I may be more nervous than my daughter. 6y
BookishMarginalia @Chrissyreadit The Erica Meltzer SAT books are really good — I find the strategies more thoughtful and effective than the standard Princeton Review-type books. Also, they are meant to complement the Official SAT practice tests on Khan academy. 6y
Chrissyreadit @BookishMarginalia you just gave me great much needed info! Thank you! We homeschool so I‘m trying to get info from various sources. 6y
See All 6 Comments
BookishMarginalia @Chrissyreadit I‘m glad — my best suggestion is to make sure she gets lots of practice and that she analyzes the results to really understand why each correct answer is the best answer. Once they start improving, many students get stuck between the correct answer and the almost-but-not-quite answer — the best way to overcome this plateau is to analyze wrong items carefully. I‘d also recommend Newsela (free website) for reading practice. 6y
Chrissyreadit Excellent! Thank you so much! 6y

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you” -Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

I saw the movie and was utterly moved; to tears at a few points. Hearing her thoughts, opinions, and motivations was utterly compelling. She‘s a true icon and champion. I am so eagerly looking forward to her biography‘s release in October. From the blurb, De Hart spent 15 years working on this and had input from RBG.
#RBG

GingerAntics That‘s exciting. I can‘t wait for this either. 7y
Jess_Read_This @GingerAntics It‘s one of my most anticipated ones this year. I‘m especially excited bc it was written with cooperation from RBG. Have you caught the movie yet? 7y
GingerAntics I don‘t usually do movie adaptations. They don‘t usually go well. I‘m waiting for the book. It also seemed weird that the movie came out before the book. 7y

Jess7 RBG is one of my most favorite people. 💙 7y
Jess_Read_This @GingerAntics It‘s a biography- not a movie based on her. So no adaptation or actors/actresses. I‘m not into movie adaptations either. Solid call to avoid them- lol. It chronicles her life with interviews with her, her children, grandchildren, friends, colleagues. Pretty much her journey through law school, cases she brought to the Supreme Court, and her time now as a Justice. (edited) 7y
GingerAntics Hm. I may have to see if I can get access to this, now. That does sound interesting. 7y
Jess_Read_This @Jess7 Mine too. She‘s just a constant source of inspiration to me. 7y
Jess_Read_This @GingerAntics I think you‘d really enjoy it. I especially loved the individuals she represented in Supreme Court cases speaking about her and their cases. 7y
GingerAntics Oh wow. That sounds really interesting. Okay, looking this thing up right now. I‘m making an exception this once. 7y
Jess_Read_This @GingerAntics And I‘ll be utterly embarrassed if you don‘t like it and I‘ve been peer pressuring you into seeing it! 😂 7y
GingerAntics lol I tend to like documentaries, so it‘s unlikely. lol 7y
