I've watched the movie Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart so many times, and never noticed it was based on a book. Fortunately for me, my local library had audio book picks of books to screen. So beautifully strange.

First book of the year. First book of my reading challenge.

I was swept away by the movie, then fell for the soundtrack, so naturally I had to read the book!

🎥 I waited to comment on ‘The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart‘ because when I had finished listening to the audiobook, I wasn‘t sure exactly what I had just listened to, what had happened, or what my takeaway was supposed to be. I thought watching the animated film (written & directed by the author) would help, but now I‘m really confused. It‘s all so very strange.

? Starting this one today: A story about a boy whose life is saved when he is given a cuckoo-clock heart. He is cautioned against strong emotions but falls in love with a girl... Translated from the French (“la Mécanique du Cœur”) and narrated by Jim Dale

Jack could easily be either character. He is obsessed with a girl and goes searching the world for her, but he is fearful of the people who find him odd and scary. Because of his cuckoo clock heart he is a monster who has been made whole. His community rejects him out of fear. At times it makes him angry. But never rarely vengeful. This book is just odd. I wanted to love it, but just barely liked it. #monstermadness2017 #frankenstein

Im@not sure this book will #fillyourheart but this book has a cuckoo-clock filling in for his. This is an incredibly weird book about a boy searching for love while running away from his past. It's an interesting book. I love the original hard cover and think the paperback/ebook sucks. It was made into an animated movie that I have not seen. My friend said she had a hard time explaining the end of the movie to her son. #septembowie

Started this one yesterday. Feels very Edward Scissorhands / Tim Burton-esque and that cover is amazing!

The Title captured my attention and so did the first page .Its a sweetly dark little adult fairytale book.After reading a heafty book previously this was a welcome quick read ,a little odd a dark. Little Jack and his cucokoo-clock heart,Miss Acacia,Dr Madaline and Georges Melies will keep you company for an evening

I wanted to love this book so much but I felt like I couldn't really get inside it. Some of the description was awkward, the characters were thin and a little too young for the kind of passion they were supposed to be feeling. I persevered but in the end, I just didn't care what happened. It's a shame because the premise is good but it seemed like it was trying too hard to be 'literary.'
