I‘m not crying, you are.
Wow. What a journey. I don‘t have words. And I need a tissue... or two... or three.

Here I am. Minding my own business. And this book stabs me through my heart. So beautiful. So moving. A great accidental find!
A retelling of the opera Turnadot retold during the mongol empire. It‘s possible my favorite part of this book was the author note, but not in a bad way.
A YA retelling of one of my favorite operas, Turandot. I cried at the end.

From debut author (and librarian) Megan Bannen comes a harrowing story set in an Mongol Empire in the 13th-century. Jinghua's story was rich and full of history, family, love, sacrifice, and riddles. Though there were some troupes, I absolutely enjoyed reading this story and cannot wait for Bannen's next novel.
Such pretty feathers. I had to have it. #feedthebirds

This one kept me up reading until 6 in the morning. I'll be looking for Bannen's next book!
4/5 stars from me. I really enjoyed it and will be looking forward to Bannen‘s next book. I think this is the first novel I‘ve read that featured positive muslim characters who talk about their faith. There WERE a couple things that didn‘t sit well with me, namely the depiction of suicide and the acceptance of the trope that when males are mean to females that‘s affection, but Bannen did her homework and wrote a great adventure.
I strategically pick up my holds right before they cancel if I'm in the middle of another book so I can hopefully get to them before they're due...only grabbing the top two today, the other two can wait a bit! 😆
And last graphic. Tagged to a book I just bought that shall help me fullfil a few prompts here and one on #booked2018. Yeah. #sfftbrchallenge
This hurts my soul because the author is a librarian but OMG I HATED THE MAIN CHARACTER! I tried but I'm exhausted by her at page 152.
One of my favorite reads of the entire year! Part fantasy, part history, this book has it all - action, politics, forbidden love, ghosts, poetry.... and the ending had me wrecked 😭 Love love love ❤️
I love me some forbidden love. This writing, this story, these characters...it‘s all so beautiful 🤩
I've been seeing this one a lot lately. We shall see if it lives up to the hype.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 I‘ve been lucky to have some great reads lately!! Might be because I‘ve become a bit picky. Either way, I‘m happy! This book was SO good, even if it‘s heart breaking. It‘s set in Mongolian era in the 13th century. Something I have not read before.
