A feminist thriller that marries 90s nostalgia and riot girl feminism. Tarttelin‘s gripping novel upends the usual scopophilic lens of true-crime writing.

You guys! I finished a book! My local indie‘s book club pick which we will be discussing tonight via Zoom.
This was a great mystery but SERIOUS TW for rape and pedophilia. Also, the narrator is 11 and sounds it so that may not be your jam. But overall I thought it offered some really pertinent insight into how we‘re raising our girls and the threats they face daily.
Book club will now be a virtual meeting. Here‘s hoping I can concentrate enough to finish this by next Saturday night.
5/5🌟This book!! Tarttelin's incredible storytelling abilities made this compulsively readable! She has taken a genre that is usually written by men from a man's perspective and totally flipped that telling the story from Thera's perspective, a girl who could have easily been one of these dead girls herself, such a brilliant and original idea! I loved the added element of the ghost girls guiding her and the feminist tones throughout. #bookreview
Can't wait to start my new book...a race to finish my current one so I can get going!
Trigger warning: book deals with rape, paedophilia, and violence.
This was 4 stars until halfway through but lost a star when I kept forgetting the mc was supposed to be 11 years old. Also the paranormal aspect didn‘t really feature as much as I thought it would and that was the main draw for me requesting to read it. Rating: 3 ⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers, Pan Macmillan, for the opportunity to review an ARC.
