I‘m not sure why the tagged book has such a low rating on here as I‘m really enjoying it. I haven‘t allowed myself to read the reviews yet though so we shall see as I get closer to the end, I guess! 😬

Meh. I loved the parts with the adorably quaint tiny village library. But Sylvia is kind of bland and full of terrible choices. The abrupt "Part 2" was totally unnecessary.

Good. Nice charming story about the power of reading especially during your childhood, loved the references to many wonderful children books. Sometimes the cast of characters got confusing. Also portrays the nostalgia of small village community in the 1950's.

Woohoo! I had to take the test I think 5 times before I passed it, and then it was a couple months of waiting after that, but I‘m finally a Goodreads librarian! Now I can make corrections for books I‘m reading as well as helping others with their requests. I like things to be accurate on GR for all of us books-and-stats nerds 🤓📚

I found this book... Frustrating. It just seemed to highlight the nasty, petty nature of pretty much every character in the village. Even worse, a lot of the misfortunes of the children we meet seem to stem directly from their introduction to the children's library, and spunky librarian, Sylvia. Was relieved to finally get to the end of this one....

I met Salley Vickers so was reading a signed copy of this which is always nice but the book left me kind of flat. I liked the sweet reunion at the end, but really I felt that the whole book didn‘t properly deal with any of the issues. My favourite but was when Sylvia told Hugh to F off!!

From a non-fiction about libraries to a fiction about a librarian, which I might have to rush as it‘s for my book club on Saturday!! I met Salley Vickers when she came to my library to talk about this and she was very nice and full of praise for books and libraries!

Am a couple of chapters in and enjoying it so far. I loved Miss Garnet's Angel and Mr Golightly's Holiday back in the day so I have high hopes for this ... ❤📚

1958, Sylvia is the town's new children's librarian and is on a mission to get the town's children excited about books and reading. However, her affair with the married GP and her befriending of his daughter and her landlady's neglected granddaughter ignite the prejudices of the locals, threatening her job and the library itself.

Very much a so-so for me. Neither the writing not the story did anything that felt new but a pleasant enough read. Hated the last part though, it felt as if Vickers didn't know what to do with her characters and tacked on a forced ending to tie everything up.

Anyone read this? It's #Waterstones pick for November but I wanna know if it's any good, sounds it.

After work today, @BookBabe & I headed over to my library's former director's home. That's her 😁. A recently-widowed retiring colleague (staying with her temporarily) needed Apple tech help, which is BookBabe's specialty. My colleague gave us art books from her house that she's sold & is cleaning out. 😊

3 librarians at a gorgeous rambling farmhouse deep in the Pennsylvania woods. Good times. 😎🙌🏻 We had home-made snickerdoodle cookies!

Gorgeous new copy from the library. Gentle 1950s story.

A day off while my car is being MOT‘d so I went to my favourite cafe, which just happens to be in my local Waterstones bookstore. Promised I would not buy another book this month (my TBR pile is already huge) but it‘s so pretty.....
