Map of Bones
Map of Bones: A Sigma Force Novel | James Rollins
During a crowded service at a cathedral in Germany, armed intruders in monks' robes unleash a nightmare of blood and destruction. But the killers have not come for gold; they seek a more valuable prize: the bones of the Magi who once paid homage to a newborn savior . . . a treasure that could reshape the world. With the Vatican in turmoil, SIGMA Force leaps into action. An elite team of scientific and Special Forces operatives under the command of Grayson Pierce and accompanied by Lieutenant Rachel Verona of Rome's carabinieri, they are pursuing a deadly mystery that weaves through sites of the Seven Wonders of the World and ends at the doorstep of an ancient, mystical, and terrifying secret order. For there are those with dark plans for the stolen sacred remains that will alter the future of humankind . . . when science and religion unite to unleash a horror not seen since the beginning of time.

I love the SIGMA FORCE series. That said, this book had parts that seemed to drag on. There were plenty of chapters that were full of action and plot twists to keep things interesting, but the slow parts were definitely hard to get through.
I would also like to add a ⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ as there are parts that go into detail describing SA and MURDER!
I enjoyed this book enough to finish it, but not enough to reread it again in the future.

I had fun with this second book in the Sigma Force series! Action-packed, with a twisty plot and plenty of fun locales, it‘s a fast read! Though #SchoolsOut for me for a long time, this one has a lot of scenes in #Rome where I spent a semester in college which added to my enjoyment!! #SongsOfSummer

Starting Map of Bones for a Group Read I am leading, which is book 2 in the Sigma Force Series by James Rollins. This has 638 so on my own definition of over 600 Pages qualifies as a Chunkster and having owned it for 4 1/2 years also qualifies for my #MountTBR Challenge #YearoftheChunkster

robinb Enjoy! It sounds good! 😊 7y
Andrew65 @robinb Thanks, James Rollins books usually are. 😊 7y
Texreader Oh what fun! I want to start over and read the books in order this time. 7y

I'd give it a solid 3.5 stars on this reread. It's a fun mystery adventure read, that uses actual scientific theories and history to build the plot. That's what I like about Rollins' books. Even if he made it up, it's still a better read than a Dan Brown book.

I started reading this today. The doctors allowed my family to light small incense in my room. The scent (roses) coupled with the sanitary scent of hospitals really helped bring the atmosphere of the opening scene to life, which takes place in a lovely Catholic Church. It's a bit how I imagined it to be. I'm really enjoying this so far. Very gripping & atmospheric.

When in doubt about a topic, today's #sandm, be creative like @Celeste57 and rely on your fave author, mine being James Rollins. Skull is one of his preteen books and Map, another excellent action adventure book from his excellent Sigma series. I figured a subject about Bones couldn't hurt for today's topic either. Sorry, though, little to no romance. #booklove17 really applies to my fave author!

Celeste57 Well done! I know I don't have any actual say in the matter, but I totally think our picks for #sandm should count for #booklove17. 😜 8y
LibrarianRyan @Celeste57 hey, if you can explain it, I'm all for it. 🤓👍 8y
Texreader @LibrarianRyan @Celeste57 And that is the loveliest thing about Litsy, the live and let live attitude! Thanks @LibrarianRyan! I'm a huge fan of your challenges. 8y

This is my third attempt to read this book since I purchased it ten years ago. Eighty pages in and I'' wondering why it's taken me so long to read this. I blame it on my immaturity.

James Rollins is my all time favorite author. His mix of religion, science, history, culture, current events, and adventure are incredible. I pick up and devour every book he writes. Map of Bones is the start of his Sigma series and one of my favorites of his.
