Fairy Tales for Angry Little Girls
Fairy Tales for Angry Little Girls | Lela Lee
6 posts | 2 read | 10 to read
The girls are back and angrier than ever! The fourth book in the successful Angry Little Girls series features the hilarious return of this beloved cast of characters, this time recast as fairy-tale heroines. Kim, the angry little Asian girl, stars in "Snow Yellow and the Seven Short Men"; Wanda, the fresh soul sistah, stars in "RapPunsWell"; Xyla, the gloomy girl, stars in "Little Miss Wears a Hood"; and the other girls star in furiously fractured versions of "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Princess and the Pea." Filled with Lela Lee's culturally charged humor, this clever collection of new comics proves that there's an angry little girl inside of everyone.

Trying to break my reading slump with some fun, quick, silly reads! I think that my grief at recently losing a very close family member combined with the heartbreaking state of the world is making it difficult for me to concentrate on reading. Any tips for reading slumps?

Laura317 I'm so sorry about your loss. This has been such a horrible year all around. That said, Calvin and Hobbes always makes me smile. 😺 8y
Gleefulreader I am so sorry about your loss. Reading slumps are totally understandable and this looks like a fun book to try and break through. 8y
MicheleinPhilly I'm terribly sorry for your loss. ❤️ I'll echo @Laura317 - Calvin and Hobbes is 👌🏼. I also like to read memoirs by comedians when I'm slumping. Tina Fey, Chelsea Handler, Aisha Tyler... 8y

PrezBookster I read short kindle books when I'm a slump, or an old kid classic that brought me into the love of reading in the first place. 8y
heatherspoetlife Sorry for your loss. I'm a wallower, so when I'm feeling down about the world and distracted by it, reading about people fighting for human rights was helpful. I was reading Freedom from Fear during the election and it helped me not go into a slump but I also like books that have prescriptions or a little hope at least. If you've read this, there's also Paradise Beneath Her Feet and Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here 8y
Hestapleton Harry Potter is my go to reading slump book. I know a lot of people have found hope in it during these troubled times. 8y
Blaire After losing my dad this summer, I've also been in a reading slump. I reread Anne of green gables and then went for mysteries (the Louise penny series, tana French), and action like jack reacher. I've also been retreading my dad's favorites. It is hard. 8y
mllemay Honestly for me it's television. It takes my mind off the fact that I have no attention span and it inevitably makes me crave books again after a while. (edited) 8y
Lindy It's okay to take a break from reading when you are in a slump. Comics, as you've found and other people have suggested, are another way to still have the comfort of holding a book without requiring extensive focus. 🌻 8y
Nonaroo I'm sorry that this has been such a hard year for you. 💗I found that graphic novels helped me out of my slump last month and it has been a long time since I've picked up a graphic novel. NPR's Book Concierge is magic! So many amazing books listed and you can filter by genre. Take a look at their suggestions for graphic novels: http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2016/ (edited) 8y
Suet624 I'm so sorry. This year has been the pits. Honestly, TV is what eases me back into reading. I also laughed a ton reading 8y
Carleneishere Read some middle grade books! A wrinkle in time or the Fairyland books are delightful! Or try reading the book version of a favorite movie. 8y

Sometimes it's good to rest from dramatic books and take a quick dip in fun reads like this one.
