This book was SO WEIRD but so good! It follows the entire life of a boy who‘s mother leaves him and his father to be with Bigfoot, aka Mr Krantz. It not only follows him, but also his wives, children, and Mr Krantz, too. Very strange but so good!

I‘m rarely one for magical realism, so I‘m surprised by how much I loved this. I think because it was so unapologetically dark, because its characters and their conflicts were so real and moving, I never found it silly. At times funny and clever, disturbing and sad, this is a deeply weird and haunting book about a dysfunctional family, a lifelong obsession, and what it means to face our demons and monsters.

Tamra Sounds interesting, stacked! 6y

Eli's mother abandons him, walking off into the woods with a gigantic, hairy stranger named "Mr. Krantz" who may or may not be Sasquatch. For the rest of his life, Eli obsesses over this creature, determined to find & understand the truth. But his hunt has consequences, affecting many generations. Part story collection, part novel, a wonderfully bizarre book filled w/all sorts of monsters. #monstermash #Octoberxfiles @Cinfhen @Robothugs

Chrissyreadit I‘m on the fence about stacking- I do not like sad books- but I do like magical realism. I just need to know if it ends well.... 6y
valeriegeary @Chrissyreadit it's pretty dark. A lot of difficult emotions. Some funny moments too but I remember mostly feeling melancholy (which I don't mind 🤗). Hope that helps you decide! 6y

🍁My apologies as this isn't at all book related🍁. Unless, I can add this sighting to the Hunter's Almanac 🤔

But I had to share this awesome welcome we got at our cabin in the mountain get away. He does exist. 😂

Jess_Read_This @Debiw781 This was at a cabin we rented for the weekend near Red River Gorge, Kentucky. When we pulled in, he greeted us before our hike up to the cabin. 😄I believe a cement statue shop near Lexington, KY sells them. (edited) 7y

"Once upon a time, Vanessa felt that she, too, had a good heart. This was (she now knew) an estimable lie. Her love for her husband, her love for Ginger had nothing to do with goodness. Loving was about need and fear and commitment and survival."

Oh my. What a beautiful, haunting book. The hunt for the elusive Sasquatch. The dysfunctional family. All presented in snippets over the years. Leaves you wondering. Leaves you hoping. 📖👍🏼

I feel really REALLY bad for Eli. This dude has been through some insane crap. I'm on the 10th chapter and feel the need to hug this guy. 😳😐🙊
