The Color of Bee Larkham's Murder
The Color of Bee Larkham's Murder: A Novel | Sarah J. Harris
In the tradition of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, a captivating mystery about a boy with synesthesiaa condition that causes him to see colors when he hears soundswho tries to uncover what happened to his beautiful neighbor, and if he was ultimately responsible. Thirteen-year-old Jasper Wishart lives in a world of dazzling color that no one else can see, least of all his dad. Words, numbers, days of the week, peoples voiceseverything has its own unique shade. But recently Jasper has been haunted by a color he doesnt like or understand: the color of murder. Convinced hes done something terrible to his new neighbor, Bee Larkham, Jasper revisits the events of the last few months to paint the story of their relationship from the very beginning. As he struggles to untangle the knot of untrustworthy memories and colors that will lead him to the truth, it seems that theres someone else out there determined to stop himat any cost. Both a refreshing coming-of-age story and an intriguing mystery, The Color of Bee Larkhams Murder is a poignant and unforgettable readperfect for fans of bestselling authors such as Fredrik Backman and Graeme Simsion.

I was initially annoyed by the structure of this one - the flashbacks were hard to discern and confused the narrative. But once I'd settled into the flow I loved it. Jasper is a fascinating character & really well done - his face-blindness, synesthesia and autism are integral to the plot & added a unique twist to the traditional murder mystery trope. I really enjoyed Jasper's development in this funny, poignant & touching story.

Cathythoughts I read this one recently, I loved Jasper too 3y

Starting this one tonight. I like this cover - must be an American variation due to the spelling difference. With thanks to #netGalley for this book .

Between a pick & a so-so. MC young Jasper has synesthesia, he sees colours when he hears sounds & has face blindness. I enjoyed this one , only it did get a bit repetitive after awhile. An unreliable narrator 👍🏻❤️. Memorable, I loved Jasper ... some characters not so likeable & stereotypical. Our Bookclub liked it less than me ... I think it‘s worth a read. We mostly agreed it would be a good book for club discussion IRL

The story of a young boy, Jasper, who is on the autistic spectrum and has synaethesia and face blindness. We see the lead up to a possible murder on his street, from his unusual perspective. I loved the descriptions of voices and sounds using so many different colours (who knew there were so many colours?!)

If you liked Eleanor Oliphant or The Rosie Project, you‘ll enjoy this book.

It reminded me sooo much of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime." The story starts with Jasper admitting that he killed his neighbor, Bee Larkham, and then it unfolds in flashbacks to reveal what really happened. I didn't predict the ending but would have loved a little more cohesion throughout the book. Plus, it felt a tad long. Otherwise, I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a unique and quirky narrator. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley

⭐⭐⭐⭐

"With a great many stories using neurodiverse characters as tokens, mostly inaccurate and offensive portrayals, [The Colour of Bee Larkham's Murder] is refreshing..."

Getting ready to start a fresh book, and a fresh can of Grapefruit Bubly! (I think I actually like Bubly better than LaCroix! Partially for flavor, partially because the tabs are so cute and cheerful with their little messages! 😍) Looking forward to both on this otherwise dreary Friday! #thecolorofbeelarkhamsmurder #sarahjharris

The first chapter had me worried, but then I found myself unable to put the book down! The lead character, Jasper, is on the Autistic Spectrum, and has synaesthesia (sees colours when he hears people‘s voices/ sounds/ words) and prosopagnosia (face blindness). It‘s a beautiful story, actually, as we ‘see‘ how Jasper sees the world. Oh, and there‘s a murder in there too. This is no copy of ‘The Curious Incident..‘ by the way.

Today was a wonderful day for lovely mail goodies. In my previous post, you can see what $200 CAD worth of makeup looks like for me. 😂 When I went to pick up that package, I found that they had this book for me as well. I am so excited to read it (once #freakyfriday is over of course) and review this #arc from #Goodreads before the June release date. IT LOOKS SO GOOD!
