The bios in front of the short stories were perhaps more interesting to read sometimes over the stories themselves. However there were a number of good stories, even though most ended abruptly - a common complaint for short stories.

I've got two on the go! In the Shadow is a collection of short mystery/crime stories written by women that came before Agatha Christie. What is most interesting are the biographies of the authors before their stories. The stories themselves are just okay (so far).
John Irving is said to have a new novel coming in 2020. So I'm reading some of the ones I haven't read yet in enthusiastic anticipation.
Work book club was yesterday and I discovered one of my co-workers is like my reading soul sister, so we spent a lot of time today talking books. That, of course, gave me an overwhelming desire to go to my local #indie #parkroadbooks at lunch, and well...you see the results. Plus, they ordered three other books for me. 🤦🏻♀️ #bookhaul
@DGRachel !! 😍 You are such a wonderful swap partner! Each gift I opened was more perfect than the last. You chose the most interesting reads (and the loveliest editions). I love the tote, the bookmarks, the tea... and that wonderful box (with the Death on the Nile quote) will be used for my growing page flag collection. Thank you so much, my friend! 😘😘😘
Thank you, @Sophoclessweetheart , for organizing this swap.❤️

A good collection. The Carolyn Wells story was my favourite. I also liked the inclusion of some Australian fiction. Could have done without the footnotes explaining now-obscure words; they were distracting. But overall this collection is worth seeking out.
OH YEAH read all five books in this stack! 😎
Carolyn Wells's story, "The Clothes-Line", might be my favourite in this collection. I just snorted out loud ?
4 down, 1 to go. I might not be able to finish this last one, because it's due back tomorrow and I can't renew, but I'll read what I can and request the book again if necessary.
I love Agatha Christie, and I‘m very fond of Les Klinger‘s anthologies, so I wasn‘t surprised that this was very, very good. Detective stories by women I‘ve never heard of, who were confident in their abilities and the abilities of their sleuths. Loads of fun.
#currentlyreading and definitely enjoying all these amazing women writers! Some of the stories are very simple, but still an interesting peek into early mystery writing.
