The book is well written , sold as a love story with a musical background . I often enjoy books even when I don‘t warm to the characters, but this was an exception- the main male character was incredibly annoying and tedious . I don‘t give up on books so I read it to the end but I‘m so glad I‘ve finished it !!!! But we are all different the critics at the time described as a masterpiece !!!!

Cathythoughts Nice review 👍🏻❤️ 7mo

#TBT

“Music, such music, is a sufficient gift. Why ask for happiness; why hope not to grieve? It is enough, it is to be blessed enough, to live from day to day and to hear such music - not too much, or the soul could not sustain it - from time to time.”

jlhammar Oh, I loved this book! 2y
ChaoticMissAdventures oh I don't know this one. I do love books about music though. Will have to check it out! 2y
quietlycuriouskate I wrote a 100-word review of this years ago for Gloucester Waterstones' newsletter. I got a £10 book voucher for my trouble. 😊 2y

BarbaraBB @Reggie Me too! A Suitable Boy was so good too! I‘ll save that one for another #TBT 😉 2y
BarbaraBB @ChaoticMissAdventures Please do. It is the best book I read about classical music ever! 2y

CarolynM Wow! I don't think I know any of those songs. I'm really not a 90's music fan 6y
TrishB Art of Noise 👍🏻 6y
Cathythoughts ♥️♥️♥️ 6y
mreads #4 you got a what? 😁 loved that! And Duran Duran ❤ 6y
Nute Love this list! 6y
Reagan Love Secret by Madonna! I have a Madonna tattoo 😬 not a picture a song name and date I saw her (3rd row ❤️) 6y
Reggie @Centique I was the nerd who could on the dance floor. Lol 6y
Reggie @batsy Back, back, back and forth....Rock the boat is my favorite but that happens in the next decade. 6y
Reggie These hips didn‘t lie way before Shakira came along. 6y
Reggie @CarolynM That‘s ok. I‘ve discovered so much from you ladies in Australia and Europe. 6y
Reggie @mreads ayo sweetie, you‘re lookin kinda pretty what‘s a girl like you doin in this rough city.... lol 6y
Reggie @Reagan-reads you know what song I really loved and had no business loving back then. Bad Girl, drunk by six, kissing someone else‘s lips, smokes too many cigarettes a day not happy when I act this way. I was a nerd who played trumpet. Lol, anyways. That‘s awesome. What song and did you manage to get some Madonna sweat on you? 6y
Reagan @Reggie I have Nothing Fails and also loved Bad Girl! I‘ve seen her 6 times, last time on the Re-invention tour and I dressed up as Like a Virgin era Madonna 😁 6y
Gezemice 90ies is my fave music era but I go more with the alternatives: Soundgarden, Nin, Garbage. I do love 90ies Madonna, however. Ray of Light is my favorite. 6y

#90sSpringFling The 90‘s were pretty easy on me. Music. High school. Beginning of college. Nothing too crazy. I got top five personalities my sophomore year (sadly I do not appear on that list again, lol) while probably getting worst personality at home. Teenagers whatcha gonna do?

Cinfhen Awesome!!! Cutie❣️❣️I love a band guy 😁 6y

Reggie @Centique Thank you, Paula. 😊 Whatever happened to cello guy? 6y
Centique @Reggie aw he was lovely, but a senior so I didn‘t stand a chance - also I finally figured out he was gay a couple years later... I have great taste, only ever fell for the nice guys 😍😉 6y

BookNAround Loved this book! 7y
BookishMe @BookNAround Vikram Seth's? It was part of a huge pile of preloved books and has been highly recommended. Hope to read it soon. On the other hand, Jhumpa Lahiri captivated me with her story 7y
BookNAround @BookishMe Yes, I meant the Seth. I do love Lahiri too but I haven‘t read the pictured book so can‘t claim to love it yet. 7y

BookishMe @BookNAround that was the first book I read by her and will remain etched. 7y
lorourke An Equal Music is one of my favourite books. Re-read it often. Have a weird obsession with buying second-hand copies if i see them. Feel it is not a book that should be sitting waiting to be bought. 7y

Uff!!! I thought I'll love reading this book. But particularly I find myself uninvolved with the plot and I don't even want to finish it. But then also I finished reading this one. I certainly didn't like it at all... 😑😐

So there's Murakami that comes to mind for #booksbyasianauthors - but for me Vikram Seth absolutely stand out, I've read everything by him, fiction, non-fiction & his incredible poetry.

An Equal Music is one of my all-time-favs. It brings together my fascination with classical music, my love of London and most of all - a well written deeply moving love story ❤️🎶

btw - does anyone recognize the bookmark?? Denver's finest 💎

#readjanuary

Godmotherx5 I've only read A Suitable Boy. I think it took me a full year to read. 8y

Everyone raves about 'A Suitable Boy' but my favorite Vikram Seth's work is this one. It's a love story set against the backdrop of music.. Can't expect a better combination. I'm a day late for the #augustofpages day 21.. But I couldn't pass on posting about this favorite of mine. #musicandbook #indianauthor

mllemay I loved this book! 8y
ReadingEnvy I so love this book. I own more than one copy!! 8y
LauraBrook This books is excellent! I remember there were certain passages where he describes how it feels to play and they were 💯% accurate! Do you have the soundtrack for the book too? It's v good, has all the music they play! 8y

SusanInTiburon A book with a soundtrack? Too cool. 8y
BookishFeminist Adding this to my list. I just grabbed A Suitable Boy from the library and it's so long 😱😳 8y
ramyasbookshelf @BookishFeminist I somehow couldn't get in to that at all! It was just too long winded for me. Have been meaning to re-read it sometime to see if I change my opinion.. 8y
ramyasbookshelf @LauraBrook I had no clue there was a sound track! That's so awesome! 8y
LauraBrook It's a double cd soundtrack and it's great! Well worth the sticker pice of you can find a copy, especially if you love this book! 8y
