Admittedly, I read this book over a year ago, but I remember quite enjoying it. The plot was super unique and very interesting, and I especially liked the take on witchcraft. The ending was pretty twisty and crazy, and I remember being really angry that the second book wasn‘t out yet. Just learned that it is now, though, so guess what‘s on my TBR. Best book ever? No. But still a good and enjoyable read that I would recommend? Yes, sir.
I read #juliavanishes and #Juliadefiant and I thought the first book was only ok. It was kind of slow but the second book was way better for me. It followed a different storyline and it had a different vibe to it.

What do you guys think of it? I would also love some #litsy tips if you have any. I'm excited to learn it!

This was a solid fantasy that honestly could have been put in the regular sci-fi/fantasy section at the book store. Though the main character is a teenager, this book does not read like typical YA. It is sophisticated in that it explores themes of betrayal, what defines evil, can people change, and what is love. It starts off a bit slow, but really builds momentum once the world has been set up and the main characters have been introduced.
I decided to return to my comfort zone and dive into this YA ARC I have had sitting around for a long time and haven't read yet. I've heard great things and it's made a lot of school library lists since it was released. And of course the book mark needed to be colour co-ordinated 😁
Sunday morning reading on my kindle oasis. Love the design of this ereader. The books good too!
Julia's independence, intelligence and ability to stay ambitious despite hardship, make her one of the most exceptional protagonists I‘ve ever encountered in a novel. - Our reviewer

It may be true that Monday's hate me too but this one's not off to a bad start and I'll be diving into this gem later on!
"It is not in my nature to turn away. Not I- I look my nightmares in the eye. And if my nightmares should look back, they see nothing but shadow. I am not there."
Witches, magic, religious oppression, magical creature possibly hiding in a basement? Oh, and murder with inklings of a serial killer? I could be completely wrong since I'm not sure where this is going. Seems to be going everywhere at once ... which could be good or could be 😟
