2 ⭐ I originally read this book over 2 years ago. At first I loved it. I thought it was so cute. Then I read someone else‘s review pointing out that it was stalking and grooming. And now upon a second read, they are correct. This reads like the song Stan from Eminem. The Ox is writing to his favorite celebrity Gazelle. He rights constantly, no matter how many times Gazelle asks him to stop. Yep, this is a playbook of a stalker or a groomer
Hmmm... at first glance, this is a cute story of a relationship between a clueless ox and a too-fabulous-for-you gazelle. But it makes me a little uncomfortable with the message it sends. You see, the gazelle very clearly and repeatedly tells the ox she‘s not interested and to stop contacting her. But ox doesn‘t, and eventually changes her mind? Wears her down? Ick. #bbrc #atoz:x

Dear Littens, thank you for finding and sharing this book with me. It was lovely. And it could have gone on much longer. I really want to see Gazelle fall in love with Ox. For now I will have to live with falling in love with this book.

Ox loves Gazelle. Gazelle...well...doesn‘t quite reciprocate Ox‘s affections. Written in epistolary form, readers view the “courtship” of Ox and Gazelle. The humor, both written and in illustration, seems like it may be better appreciated by adults. Fun and cute. Letter X for #BBRC #A2Z
#bbrc #a2z I decided to start with the toughest letter right out of the gate. This is a sweet tale of admiration and unrequited love that could have sunk into the stalking realm but, unlike so many Oldies songs, doesn't.

Hey Littens participating in #bbrc, I actually did find two more X titles in my library's Overdrive database! 🙌 🎉#a2z
#LiteraryLove Day 2: Gazelle has been receiving many loveletters from her #Admirer, Ox, who was relentless in his pursuit of the beautiful gazelle, who I thought (at least in the beginning), was quite full of herself. In fact, so self-assured is she of her own beauty that she even has a generic response that she provides to her many admirers, together with a signed enclosed photograph. Xo, Ox: A Love Story is a fun and witty book illustrated by Adam Rex and designed by Scott Campbell. The book tells the hilarious story of a hopelessly romantic ox writing love letters to his uninterested love, the gazelle. This picture book would be great for an elementary class as an RA or even an RT. Because the theme of this story is letter writing, there are a number of great activities that can be used in the classroom such as a
I love that the author & illustrator bios are written as love letters to the reader!
