William Shakespeare's The Empire Striketh Back
William Shakespeare's The Empire Striketh Back | Ian Doescher
15 posts | 25 read | 7 to read
The saga that began with the interstellar best seller William Shakespeare's Star Wars continues with this merry reimagining of George Lucas's enduring classic The Empire Strikes Back. Many a fortnight have passed since the destruction of the Death Star. Young Luke Skywalker and his friends have taken refuge on the ice planet of Hoth, where the evil Darth Vader has hatched a cold-blooded plan to capture them. Only with the help of a little green Jedi Masterand a swaggering rascal named Lando Calrissiancan our heroes escape the Empire's wrath. And only then will Lord Vader learn how sharper than a tauntaun's tooth it is to have a Jedi child. What light through Yoda's window breaks? Methinks you'll find out in the pages of The Empire Striketh Back!

Continuing with random fun, non-cerebral reading to counteract my current stress level. This week was supposed to get better, but alas ... Kinda want a beer, but hubby went to the gym like a responsible adult, and I try not to drink alone.

I finished this arc of the saga!
I can't tell you how much I enjoy listening to this cast. It's all there, love, loss, fighting, sassy droids, a lost hand, and blaster sounds that totally made my work day go by so much faster!

There is a vast difference in reading the words vs listening to a cast ensemble reading but either I truly enjoyed this Shakespearean take on a film classic.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Aren‘t these books the best! Check them out on audiobook sometime, they are read by a full cast. 6y

“What the actual fuck, Luke?”

Not a direct quote, but close enough judging by his expression.

I‘m sure The Martian is fully represented in these posts so I‘m going to go for another off planet adventure set in a galaxy far far away.... and these Shakespearean versions are just wonderful, and if you can imagine even better on audio read by a full cast production. Definitely my favorite, just as with the films, has to be the darker Empire Striketh Back #GiveAwayArtemis

TricksyTails 😍 Are these your shelves? I love it! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TricksyTails Yes, with these two books pulled out for the picture. 7y

A fantastic retelling of the old tale in iambic pentameter! It was amazing how well he pulled off the imagery to speech conversion.

#TBT What was I reading last year this time? Nothing! I was however listening to these awesome audiobooks that reimagined the Star Wars Sagas as Shakespearean plays. It sounds ridiculous, but it works amazingly well! All the dark humor and clever asides of Shakespeare, the original stories, plus inside quips about who shot first, what's R2 REALLY thinking behind those beeps, and much more! Read by a cast of actors & as good as a radio drama play!

DGRachel I bought episodes 4-6 as a boxed set, but I haven't read them. I never even considered they'd be in audio! Sounds wonderful! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @DGRachel I checked the audio out of the library and I've mean meaning to buy the books ever since! 8y
