pickIt started a little bit rushed and cheesy, but I think that might have been because there aren‘t very many chances for a Queer Hispanic Hero to not only be the lead but to be supported by so many strong women of color like her.
I‘m really enjoying this series as it slows and lets itself play out. will be putting this in as many libraries as I can haha!

so-soSome lovely art and excellent characters, but the story has some severe pacing issues and is largely driven by some of my least favorite tropes. The first issue is particularly... troubled in the pacing department, coming off largely as rushed, jumbled nonsense. America is a great character, but this is not the most promising start to her solo title.

pickI had read issue #1 and gave it a 3. After reading the first 7 issues, I‘ll up that to 3.5-4. I am looking forward to reading more about these characters now that the exposition is out of the way.
I absolutely love America Chavez and have been waiting on this colletion for what feels like forever. It's so full of kicking butts and looking cool while doing it
so-soI wanted to like this more, truly. The plot felt weird and a little disjointed? Like it took a while for things to connect in an understandable way. And I just didn't like America. Her personality rubbed me the wrong way. I've never liked the "punch first, ask questions later" personality. I appreciate what they're trying to do here though and just look at her! ?

The first two issues of AMERICA intrigued me and this one hooked me but good. Structurally, the series harkens back to an older comics mode, but content-wise it's gloriously modern and weird. Plus, it's TOTALLY woman-focused, with an emphasis on awesome WOC. (America hobnobs with Storm this issue.) Yay! #queerbooks
There are shades of EXCALIBUR here, too. Gotta love dimension-hopping rife with unexpected team-ups.
