Everyone seemed to love, for me went to SoSo because of 'forgive your abusive mother to save yourself' theme. You can acknowledge that you had a horrible mother and move on to make a better life for yourself. Lots of us daughters of dysfunction have. At least this book didn't go full on 'she did the best she could' Redemption Arc. But still the guilt tripping to visit abusive mother irked me.😒

I really enjoyed this retelling of Mansfield Park! There's a great balance of YA sweetness with serious themes, as our Fanny character ("Finley") confronts the trauma of her past. The Crawfords were updated perfectly, and I loved the theatre angle- a great play on the home theatre in the original. But most important was Finley's growth- she didn't need either boy, Crawford or Bertram, to rescue her; she made a life on her own terms. #PemberLittens

This ended up being a really fun modern YA adaptation of Mansfield Park. I loved seeing how Watson chose to update the characters & felt like the complicated relationships between Oliver/Edmund, Finley/Fanny, & the Crawfords was handled really well - plus, I shipped Oliver & Fin say harder than Edmund & Fanny 😂 Because we never see anything from the perspective of the Crawford siblings, the ambiguity of their motives (is he REALLY in love with⬇️

I didn't post a #WeekkyForecast last week because I was just reading random P&P variations haha But I am back on my game this week with a lineup of books I am pretty excited to tackle. I'm about halfway through the tagged & so far it's a great modern adaptation of Mansfield Park. The next two on the shelf are sequels, then an #LMPBC book & the next #AgathaChristieClubR2 book. Harry Potter is a chapter a day & I am really enjoying the revisit. ⬇️

Should I read this

This young adult Mansfield Park adaptation is a great tribute to the original novel while providing readers with a modern, teen twist. While Mansfield Park is not my favorite Austen novel, I enjoyed this retelling. It‘s a quick, easy read.

It took my library forever to get this book, but I finally had a chance to read the book and I kinda loved it. First, it was a super easy read; I finished it the day I started it. Second, there was angst and self doubt, but not enough to annoy me; enough to make it similar to Mansfield Park, but also real enough that I felt like I was getting a peak into their thoughts. Basically what I‘m saying is it felt realistic enough that I enjoyed it.

Completely falling in love with this story! 😍
