The Affinity Bridge
The Affinity Bridge | George Mann

Welcome to the bizarre and dangerous world of Victorian London, a city teetering on the edge of revolution. Its people are ushering in a new era of technology, dazzled each day by unfamiliar inventions. Airships soar in the skies over the city, while ground trains rumble through the streets and clockwork automatons are programmed to carry out menial tasks in the offices of lawyers, policemen, and journalists. But beneath this shiny veneer of progress lurks a sinister side. Queen Victoria is kept alive by a primitive life-support system, while her agents, Sir Maurice Newbury and his delectable assistant Miss Veronica Hobbes, do battle with enemies of the crown, physical and supernatural. This time Newbury and Hobbes are called to investigate the wreckage of a crashed airship and its missing automaton pilot, while attempting to solve a string of strangulations attributed to a mysterious glowing policeman, and dealing with a zombie plague that is ravaging the slums of the capital. Get ready to follow dazzling young writer George Mann to a London unlike any you've ever seen and into an adventure you will never forget, in The Affinity Bridge.

I‘m a bit late to the #alphabetgame party by @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
My favorite #LetterA book is from my first #LMPBC round with @Marmie7 @callunakeep @BookwormAHN
It was my first #SteamPunk book and got me hooked on the series.

Pickpick

I loved the premise and I didn‘t guess the ending AT ALL, but the writing is a bit dry and the fight scenes aren‘t that well written. Sir Maurice is a Sherlock-like figure in a steampunk London where Queen Victoria is kept alive by machines and a Zombie-like plague is overrunning the poor. Veronica, his new assistant, joins him on the queen‘s mission to learn why an Airship crashed. 3/5 stars, read if you like Sherlock & Steampunk.

3.5/5 - this was a little darker than my usual #steampunk reads, but it was a good story with solid characters, and the epilogue was intriguing enough to make me continue with the series. Getting the #booked2018 reads in just under the wire this quarter! @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Catching up (again) for ...

[March21] #SarcasticSidekicks :
1. John Watson from Sherlock Holmes - need no introduction 😁
2. Charlotte Pitt from Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series by Anne Perry. It's a husband & wife team solving crimes. Hilarious!
3. Veronica Hobbes from Newbury and Hobbes series by George Mann. Both are agents solving crimes. These are steampunk stories. Interesting!

WOW. Just wow! A novel with vivid steampunk setting, supernatural adventures and peculiar cases! Eximously written and really enjoys the friendships between Newbury, Hobbes and Bainbridge. I'm looking forward to read the next one from this series!

Interesting story with peculiar cases. I really like the Steampunk setting. It's engaging right from the beginning! Almost halfway into it.
