“Mrs.Mallard had to find a place where she and her ducklings could be safe and happy.“
I love this heartwarming story about urban life. Can be used as both a window or a mirror for urban/rural children.
This book shows a charming story of a duck's family journey through Boston. It captures the love that can be shown in a family.
“Mr. and Mrs. Mallard were bursting with pride. It was a great responsibility taking care of so many ducklings, and it kept them very busy.”
This is another book that my parents used to read to me when I was little and I always loved it. It reminded us of them because they used to live in Boston before I was around. It is such a sweet book and it makes people think about what animals in cities may be going through. There is nothing wrong with throwing bread to the ducks sometimes.
This book written and illustrated by Robert McCloskey was published in 1941 and won the Caldecott medal in 1942. It is about a couple of ducks looking for a place to raise their family in Boston. They find many places that could be god but its too busy or too dangerous. The mother sits on the eggs while the father finds the perfect home for them. The mother and duckings have to walk to their new home across the busy city and they get some help too
My working mom of 3 made time to read us classic picture books like this one, “The Snowy Day” and “Corduroy.” She didn‘t have much time to read herself, but she made sure to read to us. #picturebooks #kidlit
On our road trip back to Albany from Portland Maine, my sister and I decided to dip down into Boston. Good Luck was following us because we found the
Make Way For Duckling sculptures at Boston Commons!

1. My favorite part of spring are the days when you don‘t need the heat or the AC on because the weather is just right. We don‘t get enough of those days in N.C.
2. Not so much in spring. I read a little of everything all year!
The tagged book is what came to mind. I guess baby animals seem like spring.

“One day Mr. Mallard decided he‘d like to take a trip to see what the rest of the river was like, further on. So off he set.”
In the future, I would use this story of the mother and father duck searching for a safe home as a lesson to students of perseverance and the importance of making the best decisions for those you care about. Also, I feel that this book could simultaneously teach children about the importance of being respectful to others around you, including animal friends.
Make Way for Ducklings is a newer book does an old take on art. The are is black and white and simple but still very appealing. It is a refreshing take.
I think this book would be great for kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd grade. It has a lot of good life lessons in it for students to learn about. Ducklings are a great animal for young children to learn about.
This book is a Caldecott winning book. This book is one the classics. This book shows a lot of good lessons that kids should know. The ducks were always moving around the town.
the town‘s reaction to the ducks walking the streets were cute!
really educational. it will keep the children‘s interest because it‘s main characters are ducks but it also shows safety and how a town can come together to help a family.
Make Way for Ducklings is the 1942 recipient of the Caldecott Medal and is TL. In this timeless piece, we get to watch the life of Mr. and Mrs. Mallard as they make a life and family in Boston. Follow the Mallard family as they try to make their journey to the Public Garden is this adorable story. This is a great book to use in your classroom for S. Students in lower elementary as well as upper elementary levels will enjoy this fun book.
This MF by Robert McCloskey is about a pair of ducks and their ducklings who want to find a place to raise their ducklings. They go on an adventure and go through many obstacles but still find a way. The theme of this book is hope. S can be used for this book because it is an interactive book. This book has won the Caldecott Medal award.
This book is awesome on many levels. It explores Boston, it makes you long for a world where the biggest concern for policemen is escorting a family of ducks to the park... The illustrations are fantastic and I exclaimed more than once, to my 10-year-old‘s annoyance, “”LOOK AT THEIR LITTLE DUCK BUTTS!” 😂🤷🏻♀️😂 10/1,001 #1001ChildrensBooks
Had an outdoor lunch today and came across some ducks. I felt very brave taking these pictures!! (I‘m terrified of all kinds of avian creatures!)
These pages are the best in this book because the policeman actually helped mrs. Mallard across the street to safety.
Caldecott and was written in 1941 and renewed 1969. This setting of this book is mr. and mrs. Mallard flying all over the place trying to find a place to raise their young. After they found public garden they really enjoyed it for the people and the food that they gave them. However mrs. Mallard knew it wasnt safe enough so they found another to raise the young. The ducklings hatched and their mother took them back to public garden.
“He planted himself in the center of the road, raised one hand to stop traffic, and then beckoned with the other, the way policemen do, for Mrs. Mallard to crossover.”
I loved the use of one color throughout the books drawings. The sepia tone was accented very well by the forest green color the outside of the book was. It gave it a very elegant and classic style that I am a huge fan of.
