Unicorn Power! (Lumberjanes #1)
Unicorn Power! (Lumberjanes #1) | Mariko Tamaki

Welcome to Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpets Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. The five scouts of Roanoke cabinJo, April, Molly, Mal, and Ripleylove their summers at camp. They get to hang out with their best friends, earn Lumberjane scout badges, annoy their no-nonsense counselor Jen . . . and go on supernatural adventures. That last one? A pretty normal occurrence at Miss Qiunzellas, where the woods contain endless mysteries. Today is no exception. When challenge-loving April leads the girls on a hike up the TALLEST mountain theyve ever seen, things dont go quite as planned. For one, they didnt expect to trespass into the lands of the ancient Cloud People, and did anyone happen to read those ominous signs some unknown person posted at the bottom of the mountain? Also, unicorns. This hilarious, rollicking adventure series brings the beloved Lumberjanes characters into a novel format with brand-new adventures.

I liked this one a lot! There were nods to the comics, friendship is still important, and everyone gets to be who they are. I'm feeling optimistic about the sequels.

For #Deweys24hourReadathon I have an unrealistic amount of stacks but this one is the quicker reads. Graphic novels and middle grade fantasy with ghosts, werewolves, unicorns, and others included too.

As a fan of the graphic novel, I was ecstatic to see a novel version of Lumberjanes and I was not disappointed. Still had wonderful illustrations throughout the book to depict the new characters. This time around the girls stumble across a unicorn which leads them to a strange mountain. April is intrigued and wants to climb the mountain that doesn't exist on any map. As usual, the girls get in trouble and get themselves into a wild adventure.

Just stopped for a quick #libraryhaul. Our 8-year-old niece is sleeping over this week. We‘ve been reading the Lumberjanes comics aloud for the last few years when she visits, and this week seems like a good time to introduce the chapter books! Got her the first two so she has choices, and some YA comics that are... also definitely for her and not me😉😂

Looking for road trip book suggestions! I'm taking these two cuties (8, 11) on a road trip and I'm looking for good audiobooks and read aloud books. They love Lumberjanes, Harry Potter, good mysteries etc. Any thoughts?

HKGirl Have you heard of the Sammy Keyes series? I haven't read them myself but Anne Bogel of the podcast What Should I Read Next? recommended them to a young reader who wanted interesting audiobooks specifically. They're a detective/mystery series with a preteen protagonist. 6y
Bibliogeekery @HKGirl I haven't heard of them but I am going to check them out! Thanks! 6y
Lizpixie There‘s a new book just out called Jane Doe And The Cradle Of All Worlds. I‘ve just bought it for my granddaughter. 6y

WhatDeeReads Loved Sammy Keyes right when I was in the age group of your adorable small people. 6y
Lizpixie Or there‘s Morrigan Crow. Both books have been compared to Harry Potter 6y
Lizpixie For detective stories have they read the Friday Barnes books? 6y
gibblr This is a series 6y
gibblr Have they read 6y
gibblr Interested to know what you go with and how they like it! Never read any of the other suggestions here...might have to check them out! 6y
HKGirl Wonder is such a good one!! Don't know about the audio version but I loved it when I read it in print. ❤ 6y
HKGirl @Bibliogeekery Here is the link to the podcast episode if you're interested in the other suggestions. https://modernmrsdarcy.com/134-episode/ 6y
HKGirl And the episode is even called "Audiobooks for the whole family to binge" ? 6y
Cortg @gibblr I was going to suggest The Mysterious Benedict Society as well!
My family also loved A Series of Unfortunate Events books on road trips. Jim Curry narrates most of them.
6y
TheWordJar I‘d highly suggest The Penderwicks. We haven‘t heard the audio, but my 8 yo and 11 yo have loved them all so far. 6y
Addison_Reads Roald Dahl books are always fun options for everyone. 6y
LiteraryinPA I love Rebecca Stead‘s books, especially When You Reach Me. Not sure if it‘s an audiobook but would be great as a read aloud! 6y
Tamra We are currently liking The Candy Shop War and Tuesdays at the Castle. Mine are 8 & 10. (edited) 6y
Tamra Books Between podcast is devoted to kid lit and it‘s terrific. 6y
Nute I love this photograph of you and your daughters. Not only because of seeing you read to them, but more because of the capture of the closeness between you. It‘s beautiful!💜 6y
BarbaraJean I second Roald Dahl as well as the rec for the Penderwicks! I‘d also recommend the audio of the How to Train Your Dragon series (David Tennant narrates!). 6y
BarbaraJean Oooh, and the Casson family series is one of my favorites: 6y
RebelReader Great picture! 6y
2BR02B I bet they'd enjoy the Fairyland series. It begins with 6y

I love the Lumberjanes graphic novel series and have often wished for a novel starring this group that I could read to Haven at bedtime. I walked into the library a week ago and this book was staring me right in the face!
Mariko Tamaki captures the personalities in Roanoke cabin that we have come to know so well and the spirit of friendship to the max! I can't wait to read book 2 in a few months.

kyraleseberg @Texreader I'm enjoying it! Once I pick it up, it's tough to put back down. 7y

Really enjoying this first Lumberjanes middle grade novel-- so much so that it's distracting me from more pressing concerns, like walking the impatient dog... #dogsoflitsy

This was very cute and fun. I liked learning a little more about the girls, and it felt true to the graphic novels. I hope there's a second one!
