A sweet, funny, and emotional look at grief that manages to avoid feeling exploitative or melodramatic. A father is dying from cancer, and his daughter starts a project to preserve his memory as she also realizes that her family is dealing with their pain in their own ways.
The audio performance was excellent. Great vocalization of the different characters.

🥚I‘ve used this handle for things since I was in high school. It‘s a combination of my favorite band and my birthday
🥚We converted an unused bedroom in our house into a “library” for me. I have my bookshelves, a reading lamp, and a super cozy recliner. I spend as much time there as I can
🥚The tagged book. So beautiful and touching
🥚Including myself, 2 people and 2 dogs

Young Sunday‘s father is dying of cancer, so her family moves to the small town of Malagash, Nova Scotia where he grew up. Sunday starts recording her father‘s voice while they visit him in the hospital. She plans to take those voice recordings and convert them into a computer virus so he can live forever. This is a beautiful exploration of family and grief that manages to be both achingly beautiful and darkly funny. I highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a sweet but sad novel of a family coming together to respect the dying wishes of their father. Trying to cope with the impending loss of her dad, Sunday comes up with a brilliant plan. The family unit here is so supportive and loving and just squeezable-bad inside jokes and all. This is a short and very quiet novel and I was able to get the audiobook on Hoopla.

TerriGreen This one is new to me. Sounds really good! 5y

A teenage girl plans to use her mad programming skills to keep her dying father alive forever in the form of a benign computer virus. This warm and funny novella-length #audiobook avoids sentimentality while portraying a Nova Scotia family coming to terms with their grief. #CanadianAuthor

I‘ve been scared to touch them but I do so now. The cow does not rear or buck. It does not snort or gnash. It accepts my touch with the indifference of a giant, of a machine. I am trying not to think of it as stupid meat and bone and muscle. I am trying not to think of myself as stupid meat and bone and muscle.

Those #catsofLitsy — they‘re either sitting on our laptop keyboard as we type, or settling onto an open book that we are reading, or deciding they need to sit on the knitting while we are working on that project. #audioknitting interrupted

Lindy @Soubhiville Thanks. Only the sleeves yet to go. I stood up when I finished the side seam and Frida immediately shifted to the warm cushion I had been sitting on. She does like to be warm. 5y

Mom and I rode bikes to the library and used book store today. (2.5 miles total. My legs are jelly.) Here‘s my haul. We have like $200 in credit at the used book store and mom says she doesn‘t care if I spend it all. Yikes! 😹😹😹

Reviewsbylola That‘s awesome your mom gave you those whole credit! 🤗🤗 7y

#audiobook #hubchallenge Sunday's father is dying of cancer, but she has a plan: she's recording his voice and conversations to include in the computer virus she's writing. Once she's released it into the world, he'll live on forever. The voice recording aspect of the story made the audiobook a perfect choice (although I wish they had gotten the rights to use the actual tunes to the Muppet songs the waif sings). A heartbreaking 2.5 hrs 💔

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: This Book gave me so many feels. It‘s one sitting book, only two hours on audio with such a powerful message about family. Add this one to your list.

What a beautiful, sweet and sad but lovely story. Perfectly narrated by Jenna Lamia. Perfect person to narrate this young girl‘s story about the last days with her father, dying from cancer

A plan is hatched by a young teen to record her father‘s voice during his last days and release it as a computer virus so no one will forget him. This short story of navigation through grief was heartbreaking, heartwarming, funny, sad, tender and harsh at the same time.

"And if words mean something to you, if an idea moves you, aren‘t you changed, just a little?" First book of #24in48—this short yet memorable Canadian novel about a young girl using technology to deal with her father's impending death/preserve his life in a unique way. Set in Malagash, Nova Scotia, her father's hometown. Tender, heartbreaking, heavy, funny...true. Highly recommend it. @24in48

Blew through this story about family and grief in no time. Beautiful and different from much of Comeau's previous works but equally evocative.
