Something New | P. G. Wodehouse
12 posts | 14 read | 17 to read
Young neighbours and fellow-writers Ashe Marson and Joan Valentine, newly met and both in need of a change of direction, find themselves drawn down to Blandings, for various reasons attempting to retrieve a scarab belonging to an American millionaire, absent-mindedly purloined by Lord Emsworth. Once within the Castles idyllic walls, despite impersonating servants, romance cannot help but blossom; meanwhile, Freddie Threepwood, engaged to the millionaires daughter, is worried about some incriminating letters....

Finished my 6th book for the #SummerEndReadathon. It was a fun read for the classics book club I'm in. @TheSpineView

Still have two slots open for Group L - Lighthearted Fiction!! Join us reading low-angst, happy reads along the lines of (but not limited to) P.G. Wodehouse, Georgette Heyer, E. Nesbit, etc. There are also loads of other groups open if you're interested in a different genre!!

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080444aead2ca0ff2-litsy17#/

inthegreensandblues I signed up for Group L.😊 2y
TheAromaofBooks @inthegreensandblues - Yay!! Glad to have you along!! @IndoorDame is reading with us as well!! 😁 2y
IndoorDame @TheAromaofBooks @inthegreensandblues I‘m so sorry but I‘m not going to be able to read with you this round after all. There‘s a chance I may be moving next month and I don‘t want to commit to a reading group I won‘t be able to follow through on. I really hope you find a member to take my place, I love the theme of this group!!! 2y

TheAromaofBooks @IndoorDame - Oh, so sad for us!! But hopefully your move is a good thing!! If we end up not having another person, would you at all be interested in having the group with just three people and we read April-May-June (skipping March)? No worries if not, but I thought I would throw it out there!! 2y
IndoorDame @TheAromaofBooks thank you, I hope the move ends up being a good thing too if it goes through! But my health hasn‘t been great lately so it‘ll take me some time to recover from, so while I do love the idea of getting right back to reading with you this spring, I don‘t see it being possible. I‘m really sorry!!! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @IndoorDame - No worries, just thought I would see if you were interested!! Hopefully everything works out and the new place is full of happiness!! 2y
IndoorDame @TheAromaofBooks thank you for the kind wishes and for understanding ❤️ 2y

Meh! I cannot get into this at all...! 🙄 (bailing at page 56.)

squirrelbrain Oh no! Blah! 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I‘m also not a fan of Wodehouse. I did find the audio easier to get along with tho. 5y
Caroline2 @thegirlwiththelibrarybag yes, I was wondering if it might be better as an audio book. I‘ll give it a break for now tho. 5y

After a day of putting out fires at work, including staying late when all the rest of the staff had left, I relaxed in front of the tree with this cheery little read. A witty romp with no deep themes or dark agendas, it is a well written light, quick read.

tomes4gnomes I love to read anything Wodehouse. Pure delight! For me it‘s the grown up equivalent of reading Winnie-the-Pooh (which I still adore). 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 I‘ve never read this author but heard good things, definitely need to try! Beautiful tree 🌲 7y

“The Honorable Freddie came out of his book much as a sleepwalker wakes—with a sense of having been violently assaulted.”

I think we can all relate to this!

I don‘t have enough time or brain power to read anything Big this week, so I started this at lunch. It should meet the bill of being light and short, but well written.

Peterfox123 Wodehouse and Sherlock Holmes are my "go to" refuges when I just want to submerge myself in another world. Little effort required but immense reward forthcoming. Hope you enjoy. 7y
Lcsmcat @Peterfox123 You can‘t beat the Brits. 😀 7y

P.G. Wodehouse is the ultimate in #comfortreads Jeeves and Wooster especially, but this is from my shelves (& comfort reads need 🍷 & chocolate pudding 😜). I did a blog post last year on escapist reads: http://booksonthego.net/2016/08/26/escapist-books/

#Bug
I've never read Wodehouse before so I picked up this first of the Blandings Castle series from a Book Outlet sale.
#SizzlinSummerReads

rubyslippersreads I normally don't like bugs, but I'll make an exception for these. 😄 7y
melrailey Oh I need to go look for that! I have read all the Wodehouse I have and am in need of more. 7y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads Yes, scarabs aren't REALLY dung beetles, are they? 😉 7y

Sometimes on a rainy day you just need the library and some classic comedy. Wodehouse is as hilarious as ever, and I always enjoy a quick visit to Blandings to see The Empress.
