The first book in the Voidwitch novella series.

I just started it last night for something quick & different. To be honest...the premise makes it sound super badass but the actual execution feels like it's trying waaaay too hard.

Its short though so I'll finish. 😊

OriginalCyn620 Sorry you‘re not loving it! 🪐 5y
uwak I felt the same! Shame cuz it sounded really cool conceptually. 5y
xicanti I ended up bailing on this one despite the length. Sadness. 5y

it's so disappointing when a book has a bunch of elements that would normally appeal to me (heroine with crazy powers, violence, snark, and space fights) but doesn't come together coherently. the entire time I read this, I kept feeling this title was a lukewarm and slightly juvenile derivative of other things I've read that executed things better, so the overall experience was remarkably underwhelming.

I don't quite know how so much managed to fit in such a small book, but it didn't feel rushed to me! I really liked how often we learnt new information with Mars that changed our perspective.

This was an interesting sci-fi novella with a non-binary character, I will be following this series.

2018 has been a year full of novellas for me, and not just because I wanted to pad my Goodreads challenge numbers. There's just been a lot of well-reviewed and interesting sounding horror and sci-fi published in that format lately. Killing Gravity is a fun, action packed story in a space opera setting. At times I would've liked a bit more backstory and explanation, but I'll definitely read the sequels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fast, furious, gore-soaked read as super-powered psychic Mars tries to evade capture by unethical military researchers (think X-Men‘s Stryker; you won‘t be far off). There‘s a lot of action packed into this novella, with compact thumbnail characters and an adorable not-a-cat sidekick (space otak). Fun - I‘ll be hunting down the sequel in due course.

#RRSciFiMonth Day 8: can‘t wait to read

I should‘ve got to An Unkindness of Ghosts already, but SF (shockingly!) was the one category I didn‘t have time to complete for the Subjective Chaos Kind of Awards (which Unkindness went on to win). I really want to read it. Buuut I‘ll probably read Record of a Spaceborn Few and the Killing Gravity novellas first.

☄️Space opera about a girl on the run who‘s also seeking vengeance.
☄️Fabulous rep of non-binary character.
☄️Excellently action-packed & violent.
☄️Amazing space battle scene.
☄️World-building is detailed & delightful in scope, esp. for less than 180 pages.
☄️Interesting premise that is unputdownable.
☄️Super cute & vicious cat-type critter.
☄️Highly rec‘d for hard sci-fi fans & fans of things like Firefly & Murderbot diaries.
☄️4.25/5

I just started reading this and the first chapter introduces an Asian MC and a non-binary person, who seems to be accurately depicted so far (proper use of pronouns, etc.). It‘s got me very excited to keep on going!

It‘s a space opera novella, if I‘m not mistaken. 🙂🙂

Sci-fi cyberpunk. A short fun ride, although the hectic pace makes some bits of the narrative feel squashed and in need of more room to breathe. Looking forward to the next installment.
