If you want a book that has fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, read this. Completed this in a day. The story is about the fictional Ariel Gore, who is remarkably similar to the dal author, Ariel Gore. A single mom at 19, Ariel feels shame at her childhood, family, her body, her art, and her motherhood. It is heartbreaking but also uplifting. The book is sprinkled with witchcraft and quotes from bell hooks, Adrienne Rich, Gloria Anzaldua, and others

This book is about 15% too weird for me so far, but in a way I'm into. #queerbooks

We Were Witches reads like a modern history book, detailing a fictionalized account of Ariel Gore's experience of being a teenaged single, bisexual mom during the early 90s. She connects her story to the broader history of unruly women and interacts with feminist writers of the past and present in a way that feels natural and truthful. The book left me feeling grateful for the women who came before me and energized for my future.

After a couple months of not being able to get into any books, I am devouring this one.

I think that I would have appreciated this book a lot more when I was younger. It would have spoken to 20 year old me in a way it didn't quite manage to me now. The writing isn't always strong but I did appreciate the content (and giving it a pick for that) a young, queer, single mother navigating the world. #queerbooks
