I love this Track series and wish I‘d known about it when my daughter was running track in middle school. It would have been right up her alley.

Patina runs because her Momma can‘t. She has always been the one to be relied on before going to live with their Aunt and Uncle. Now she has to learn to rely on others as part of the relay team.

Patina‘s story was my favorite of the Track series. It was beautiful how much she loved her little sister.

I recently read this book after I had read the first book in this series and it definitely did not disappoint. While a good portion of the book could have been trimmed out to make the book go along much faster, Patina was a very heartwarming story about a girl who has to overcome many issues in her life in order to do good in track and be a better person overall.

Another good one about a middle schooler and her everyday troubles at home, at school, and at track. Patty runs as a way to let out her anger and feelings about what goes on in her life. Her mom is handicapped due to diabetes and Patty and her little sister are both Black living with their White aunt and uncle. While they love their family, this leads to interesting feelings of identity and conversations at track and at school as other kids ⬇️

The second book in the series and again a book, that caught me from the beginning. It's great to see the team from another perspective than before. I'm also quite impressed with Patty and how she copes with her life. An interesting part of the book was, that Patty herself had to deal with her own prejudices.

I liked it even better than Ghost 😊

It‘s been a grand Audibook- filled weekend!
Had lots of work to get done where I could listen while working, thus the two finished audiobooks 🎉🎉 love this series so far. Unfortunately the audiobook of the next book ( and many others on my TBR ) won‘t be bailable on SCRIBD until 11/20 ... I can‘t wait that long! 😭

I adore Jason Reynolds and his Track series. Patty has Ma (bio mom) and Momly (aunt). She carries all this weight on her shoulders - Ma lost both of her legs to diabetes, father died before her sister was born, and she feels responsible for her baby sister even though she has Momly and Uncle Tony (guardians). She takes all that worry and learns to trust and be there for her relay team. Great motivational book.

As far as I‘m concerned, Jason Reynolds can do no wrong. This was a quick enjoyable listen and I enjoyed learning more about Patina and watching her report grow with the characters we first loved in Ghost. Patty was such a little adult, trying to take care of everyone in her life while also adjusting to some drastically altered life circumstances and finding her footing in a new school and on a new team. I loved her.

Another gem, this time about Patty on The Defenders. Great middle grade lessons about not judging a book by its cover, you never really know what's going on behind the scenes and different isn't bad. Patty reminds me so much of myself growing up that this book hurt in all kinds of ways. Spectacular characters and a wonderful story! #SeriesRead @TheSpineView

I read Patina and Sunny, the middle 2 books in this series, back to back. They were very quick reads and I enjoyed them! I like how the track series is great to recommend to girls and boys, athletes and non-athletes, kids who like reading and those who don‘t (yet!). Jason Reynolds does a good job with dialogue and reproducing authentic conversation styles from lots of different demographics. Pick!

I didn‘t love this story, but I‘m giving a pick for what it is for its intended audience. Showing kids overcoming difficult family situations and being great kids.

The second book in Jason Reynolds's Track series, Patina focuses on Patty, a middle-distance runner. Patty lives with Momly and Tony, her aunt and uncle, and with her sister Maddy but maintains a strong connection with her Ma, her birth mother. After her father died tragically and her mother's legs were amputated because of diabetes, Patty and Maddy moved to their new neighborhood and to a new private school. (continued in comments)

I enjoyed this one. Not as much as I liked book 1 Ghost. I will continue with this series and see where the next character takes us.

Patina runs for her mom who has "The Sugar" and has lost her legs to diabetes.

Her father died young, her mother was handicapped by diabetes, and Patina and her sister went to live with her aunt and uncle. They go to a mostly wealthy and white school. Running is patina‘s freedom. Very well done. The drive, isolation, and need to have control in an uncontrollable world was manifested in Patina‘s every day life.

This was an awesome follow up to Ghost. Focusing on Patina, the story follows her as she is still adjusting to life at her new school, handing off several of her old responsibilities, and learning how to successfully run a relay with her new teammates. Going into the book, I loved Reynolds‘s dedication, “To all those who were passed the baton too young.” I think this is a great novel to discuss the ideas of teamwork & sharing responsibilities.

I loved Ghost and this book was even better than that. I loved that Reynolds wrote a female main character, full of heart and also complicated and real. On one hand she‘s trying to fit in at her new school where everyone seems to be rich, then she‘s also trying to be a good big sister and daughter, though they only see their mum on weekends. On top of all that she‘s part of an elite track team and has been picked to be a member of the 4x800 relay

This second book in the Track series is as good as the first & a great middle grade read. It‘s never easy being the new kid & Patina is navigating that on two fronts—at her new school & on the track team. When she‘s not running, or doing most of the work on a group project (wondering how she can get others to do some work) she‘s helping to take care of her younger sister & more. Reynolds is a fantastic writer & I highly recommend this book.

These are great books for those hard-to-pick-out-books-for kids you have in your school or library. There are lessons learned throughout and you see how beneficial being a part of a team sport is.
The endings though! 😫 Each book stops in the middle of a race and you have to hurry and get the next to find out how they did. I understand why, it keeps you reading and engaged.
I'm looking forward to finding out more about Patty's teammate Sunny!

This book! It started off more slowly for me than Ghost, but then hit me so much harder. The way Patty feels like she has to take more on her own shoulders as a big sister is so relatable and relevant for me personally, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. She is flawed but real, and while I wanted to roll my eyes at her more than once, I also felt incredibly satisfied at the way she fights her problems. This book stayed in my head for a long time.

At the ritzy new school she attends, Patina struggles to fit in. At least she has track, where she can depend on herself alone. Until, that is, the coach makes her the anchor of the relay race and she has to learn to rely on others.

I read this in February and nearly forgot to post! I enjoyed this middle grade read featuring the Olympic sport of track but I definitely liked its predecessor Ghost better. Just a few more days to finish my last book for the quarter!!

Book 2 of the Track Books: Patina runs like a flash to escape her demons. Told from Patina's POV, so endearing.

This is excellent. I loved Patty and her story. Ended up liking this one more than Ghost, but it‘s Jason Reynolds and everything he writes is excellent.

Solid, grounded, authentic. My first Jason Reynolds read and I shall be reading more! I guess I should backtrack and read Ghost as well, but you can totally read this without reading Ghost. Getting psyched that this author is a product of my neck of the woods and made it big! Looking forward to more great things from this author! #diversebooks
