This book proves that you are only as you let yourself feel.
“We forget that its grandpa dancing, and all we can hear is the slivery tap of two feet, and all we can see is a song and dance man gliding across a Vaudeville stage.”

This is a story about and old man who loves to sing and dance. In his youth, he was spritely and able to move and dance easily but not that he is older he struggles to move. His grandchildren love watching him sing and dance and for a moment they see him as a young man again.
Song and Dance Man by Karen Ackerman, 1988. Caldecott Award Winning Book. This book has an easy-to-follow plot with excitement on every page. The illustrations use colors that remind the reader of childhood and warm and fuzzy feelings. The book is easy to connect to because it surrounds a grandpa who is reminiscing with his grandchildren. This would be a great addition to any bookshelf!
This book would be great for a history lesson about how things have changed as the years have gone by. Every generation is different and it would be fun to explore the similarities and differences.
When we visit, he tells us about a time before people watched TV, back in the good old days, the song and dance days.
“ he spins and jumps into the air. toughing the stage again he kneels with his arms spread out, and the silk top hat and gold-tipped cane lie side by side.“
I would use this in a classroom, beucase some of my students live with all differnt people. But I would also use it in a way showing the love of story telling and the different ways that could happen, within a history lesson, I would start off with pictographs and how folk sotryeis were made and the value of listening to stories from others.
Song and Dance man by Karen Ackerman, 1988. caldecott winner- the color on the pages add a warm feeling to my body when I read the story. The images also bring happy feeling because they have so many smiles on their faces and the colors add a sense of joy to reading about the history of what it was like back in the day.
This RF. This is great for RA. This book won a Caldecott Medal. This book is about a grandpa telling how he was a dancing man and his adventure to his grandchildren. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/teaching-technique...
Song and Dance Man written by Karen Ackerman and illustrated by Stephen Gammell is another Caldecott Award winning RF book. This book is about a grandpa who tells stories about the time of his life when he would dance on stage. He even showed the kids all his old shoes which makes him feel alive again. An UDL strategy would be 8.3 to foster collaboration and community.
A Caldecott Winning book, and rightfully so(pub.1988). This book had great story line of some nostalgia story telling. Which seems to be something that most kids can experience whether it be with family, friends, or guardians. Illustrations are bright and colorful. This story makes me think about my family telling me stories and how much fun it is to hear them.
“All the lights are turned low except one that shines on his polished tap shoes.“
A Caldecott winning book published in 1988 is a cute read! It shows that you may never loose your talents regardless of your age. The passion is what inspires others.
“He smiles, and whispers that he wouldn‘t trade a million good old days for the days he spends with us”
I like this page of the book because it shows a really good message! The grandpa is not sad that his glory days are over because he gets to share the experience with his grandkids now. I think it‘s a good message for kids that just because something ends doesn‘t mean it is over
Illustrations were beautiful and creative, I like show they looked as a child scribbled In some places but were also very detailed
Song and Dance Man written by Karen Ackerman illustrated by Stephen Gammell is a fiction picture book that won a gold Caldecott honor. It is about a grandpa who tells stories of the time he danced on stage then goes up into the attic with his grandchildren and pulls out his old dancing shoes and starts to dance, sing, make jokes, and do tricks. #ucflae3414su19
A fun loving grandpa who dances in the attic, who says you can‘t be active when you get older? This grandpa is all about fun and dance and that‘s the message he tries to send to his grandchildren.
#OctoberXFiles Day 3: The song and dance man can definitely be considered a #BoogieMan as he loves to twist and shout. I took a screenshot of Fats‘ review on our website to highlight the vibrant nature of this grandfather who loves to boogie and dance. This book received the Caldecott Medal in 1989.
