A History of the Book in 100 Books
A History of the Book in 100 Books | Roderick Cave, Sara Ayad
4 posts | 14 to read
The ebook age has taken 'the book' to a turning point. But in fact, casting off old technologies and taking on new ones has been part of the history of the book since Egyptian times. At this crucial time for the future of books as we know them today, this volume tells the story of the book from the very beginning.

Hear's my blank one if you want to screenshot it and place your reads over the dates @Gezemice (or anyone else for that matter). I used a free app called Over to place the covers over this background.

Mommamanzi Awesome!!!!!! Thank you 😃 7y
SharonGoforth Thanks!! 7y

Laura317 Ooooh! I will have to try this app! Thanks, @Riveted_Reader_Melissa 7y
FantasyChick This is great! 7y
Gezemice Oh so cool! Thank you so much! Now I will have to do this, lol. So starting date is when I started on Litsy? That would have been April 2016. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice It's really open ended, I started from when I first heard of it which wasn't long after I joined Litsy.... and then I think I counted any I'd read that year....so I personally used books that I've read in 2016 and 2017. Feel free to use the same if you'd like. 7y
Gezemice Well I started reading a lot in May 2015, when I quit my full time job... seems like a good time to go back to. I kind of count all my recent reading from there... 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice If I go back in to 2015 I can add a few more... 🤔 7y

Well... I haven't done my July wrap up yet, but I did spend some time actually getting my #192019 reading challenge in order. I just went ahead and added the rest of my Potter re-read because I know I'll finish them, and hopefully I'll be able to add the rest of the LOTR as we finish them up with #LOTRChapterADay. But at least now I have some idea where I stand, and where I'll need to focus the rest of this year and next year.👍
#192019Challenge

readinginthedark Awesome! I need to do this! You're starting from 1920? 7y
Marchpane Love the graphic - looks great! 7y
Cinfhen Great graphics 😍😍😍 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @readinginthedark Yes, the challenge is to read one book published each year from 1920 through 2019 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Marchpane @Cinfhen Thank you! And thanks @llwheeler for the idea!👍 (edited) 7y
llwheeler @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Ooh love your graphic 😊👍 and awesome progress on the challenge too! 7y
Gezemice That's really cool. Where did you get the graphic? Now I need to see how my books fit into this. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice I've sucked you into another one! This one is great though, because I also get next year to work on it. I used books I read since I first heard of this challenge shortly after joining Litsy last year, I didn't go back any further than that. And I made the graphic & then used the book images from Goodreads to place over the dates. I'll post my original blank graphic & you can take a screenshot and do the same with a free ap called Over 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice And I know I mentioned this to you when we started planning our AtoZ late last year, so you can definitely count all those classics you've read this year! 7y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yeah I vaguely recall but at the time I was exhausted from two challenges and did not want to commit. I did not allow overlaps last year... I am smarter now and try to pick books that fill multiple challenges, lol. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice Yes! Live and learn! I seem to be doing fairly well on all my Litsy based challenges... I think because I see them mentioned or tagged semi-regularly and it both reminds me or gives me ideas. My non-Litsy challenges are not looking so good. 7y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa My most active group on Goodreads is the ATY and they always have something fun going on so that's my main challenge that is going best. 42 of 52! I am doing Popsugar, too, that one has categories left I will have to read outside my comfort zone for. Like, a book about food. What do I do with that? Read a cook book? I don't care for food memoirs. I can't eat most of what they talk about!!! 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice I may have to join that one and try it next year, it sounds fun. Last year I read Love, Loss, and What we Ate... more memoir than food and lots of great cultural stuff from her homeland. I luckily enjoyed it, because I didn't want to read a cookbook either... 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice This year I was thinking about reading 7y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think I have seen that, perhaps when you were reading it. Looks interesting 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice but yes, those categories keep coming up and if they do next year, I'm going to have to start skipping some of those challenges. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice Yes... I think I remember you commenting on it last year. 7y
Gezemice @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yeah, I think I might just skip ones I really don't feel like reading. I like being challenged but I don't want to waste my time on something that I don't find worthwhile. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Gezemice I've been thinking similar thoughts... I don't mind being challenged, but it I tried that genre once in other years, or have other challenging things on my to-read list why waste time and money tracking down and buying something special. 7y

#RecentNonfictionRead I've been dipping in and out of this fantastic chronological history that is full of the most wonderful illustrations. From a 10th-century copy of the Iliad, Apicius' cookbook and The Book of Kells to manga and e-books ... this is a "book about books" that covers it all and does it beautifully. Oh, and it would be a good reference for the #FunFridayPhoto aliens. ? #BooksAboutBooks

RadicalReader @LeahBergen what a remarkable looking book never seen one like this before but makes me think of 8y
