A graphic novel account of the life of a jewish boxer who survived the holocaust: camps, death marches, forced labour. Every bit as bleak as you would expect.

I teach an 8th grade Holocaust unit and was looking for some books to add and found this. Heartbreaking yet hopeful. Definitely a book I will add. Using the graphic novel format for the story was an interesting twist.

Boxing makes me sad, so I looked for a link I could be happy about- here is a link to a poem that sounded just right! https://thespinoff.co.nz/books/16-06-2017/the-friday-poem-boxing-day-by-peter-ol...

TrishB I like that. When I was younger (ok a few years ago!) nothing was open on Boxing Day - I wish it was the same now! A break for everyone. 6y
Exbrarian Fantastic poem. 6y
Chrissyreadit @TrishB I kind of feel that way about Thanksgiving day, but I do love having restaurants and movie theatres open on holidays. 6y
Chrissyreadit @Exbrarian I am so happy I found it. I thought it was pretty awesome. 6y

So I was at the library doing research and then I couldn't help but browse the comic book section. So instead of reading one of the many titles in my to-read pile I'm reading this. What a powerful work of art it is turning out to be!

This novel was amazing. I'm so glad I just randomly found it in the stacks at the library. I highly recommend.

Stopped by the graphic novel section of the library this week. Haven't read a graphic novel in a while. #happysunday
