I felt like a bit of Yorkshire gothicky-ness. 😉
I‘m about 100 pages in and it‘s atmospherically FUN.

I‘ve read two books with creepy houses and the EXACT SAME TITLE and I didn‘t realize until later! Does this kind of stuff happen to you???

Riveting. I think I held my breath for two days. I had to force myself to put it down last night. But I‘m not so sure about that ending... #bookreview #netgalley
Just finished so I can start a new book for #24in48!
Love the setting (Yorkshire moors). The writing is not terrible. But the second half of the book was just not good. Lots of plot holes and the worst part for me, an adorer of Charlotte Brontë and her masterpiece Jane Eyre, which is both honest and beautiful, was the anachronistic dialogue and behavior of the main characters, especially Annaleigh. Frustrating and disappointing.
Little book haul from the charity shop. Both are pretty much brand new and only Qb each ☺️
#firstbookof2018 ... and it was a good one... (I think it was @emilyhaldi I saw mention it?🤔)
Atmospheric and creepy at times, this has a definite Bronte-esque vibe with it‘s Yorkshire moors setting. Perfect book to curl up with during this unusually cold week we are having in South Florida! Brrrrrrr!
Listed as a great choice for fans of Fingersmith or Jane Eyre...Annaleigh flees her home in London and finds herself in the remote countryside of England at the mysterious White Windows house. She soon becomes drawn to the master of the house, Marcus Twentyman, but slowly realizes all might not be as she first believed and the intrigue of the Manor begins to unfold... A fun, macabre read for a gloomy day 💀

I really enjoyed this. It‘s gothic, creepy and unsentimental in a way that both payed homage to classics, like Jane Eyre, and updated the conventions for a modern, less romantic twist. I also loved that Annaleigh is smart, resourceful and unapologetically angry. It‘s a lovely take on classic themes full of complex, engaging characters. I definitely recommend it.
A creepy and fast-paced read. The ending is bittersweet for me, but I was pleased overall. Book 1 down on our family vacation book club! 🖤🌚🏝
I loved the historical setting of this book, along with the creepy Gothic feel. The story builds up slowly in the first half and then really takes off in the second half. This was our first read for our vacation family book club and so far seems to be a hit. Just one more sister needs to finish!
This a dark and stormy, gothic tale in the vein of Jane Eyre or Rebecca. We read this in our family vacation book club and it's a quick read so we are already on to the next book. @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Meredith3
A dark, gothic thriller. Fun to read for our family vacation book club! The characters in this book are all a little creepy but I found the storyline and conclusion to be satisfying.
Vacation vibes. ✌🏻 My sisters are reading by the pool but my kids were ready for a break. (Yes, there is a child hiding behind that iPad 😂)
I'm officially ready for Florida book club! 13 days to go!!!!
Now I need to work on curating the rest of my vacation book selection... how many can I read with a week by the pool? 🤔
