Ganesha's Sweet Tooth
Ganesha's Sweet Tooth | Sanjay Patel, Emily Haynes
6 posts | 8 read | 5 to read
The bold, bright colors of India leap right off the page in this fresh and funny picture book adaptation of how Ganesha came to write the epic poem of Hindu literature, the Mahabharata. Ganesha is just like any other kid, except that he has the head of an elephant and rides around on a magical mouse. And he loves sweets, especially the traditional dessert laddoo. But when Ganesha insists on biting into a super jumbo jawbreaker laddoo, his tusk breaks off! Ganesha is terribly upset, but with the help of the wise poet Vyasa, he learns that what seems broken can actually be quite useful after all. With vibrant, graphic illustrations, expressive characters, and offbeat humor, this is a wonderfully inventive twist on a classic tale.

Tonight‘s choice! A lovely tale of Ganesha and how he came to lose his tusk and what ensued. Sanjay Patel‘s fantastic illustrations make this a favourite. #BedTimeBooks #KidsLibrary #NightTimeRitual #ChildrensBooks

Sace I read this a couple of years ago. The illustrations were just gorgeous! 5y
AppuNthebooks @Sace I know, right! Have you seen Sanjay‘s Super Team? Looks lovely and quite fun, too. 5y

What a great book for a diversity or multi-cultural theme! This would make a great starting book for Hinduism or Indian mythology.

Ganesha is just a regular kid - with the head of an elephant. And a love for sweets! When he bites into a jawbreaker, his tusk falls off! Ganesha is very upset and tries to fix it until realizing he can use his broken tusk like a pencil.

These were some of my favorite illustrations for a children‘s book!

AppuNthebooks My kid loves this book! Have you seen ‘Sanjay‘s Super Team‘? Enjoyed that one, too. 5y

Introducing the magical world of Indian mythology to my daughter.. what better way to start than this cute little book with wonderful illustrations and a simple story line?

Sace My library has it available through Hoopla! I'm so excited! 8y
ramyasbookshelf @Sace it's a fun little book! Enjoy! What's hoopla? 8y
Sace @ramyasbookshelf Hoopla is an app my library uses for digital content like ebooks, audiobooks, music and movies. I'm trying to use the library more and not buy books, but it is difficult. 80-90% of the time my library doesn't have books I see in Litsy. 😔 8y

ramyasbookshelf @sace my library is my first stop too. Buying books at the rate at which I read them will be an economic nightmare. My library has a limited digital collection too (and the wait times are horrendously long) but if I find a Litsy recommendation there, I always do a little happy dance. 8y
Sace I do happy dances too! I just loved the illustration you shared and when I found the book on Hoopla I was thrilled!! 8y
Lindy Another one I love by Patel is 8y
ramyasbookshelf @Lindy Ooh!! Thanks for letting me know about that book! Do you know what's the intended reading level ? I'd love to get my daughter started with Ramayana with Sanjay Patel's illustrations.. 8y
Lindy @ramyasbookshelf I reviewed it a few years ago and found the content suitable for all ages. https://lindypratch.blogspot.ca/2013/01/ramayana-divine-loophole-by-sanjay-patel... 8y
ramyasbookshelf @Lindy perfect! Great review :) ordering it right away! 8y
Lindy @ramyasbookshelf Depending on your daughter's age, you may need to read it to her until her vocabulary is more advanced. But the pictures tell the story too. 😀 8y
ramyasbookshelf @Lindy she's six.. but it's good if it's at a slightly higher level and I have to help her out a bit initially. Thanks Lindy! 8y
LeahBergen This looks amazing! 8y
