Beautiful artwork and such a cute story! Poor Gustavo is shy and doesn't know what to do. He decides to invite everyone to a violin concert. Will anyone show up? Will he make friends? Only one way to find out... read the book!

My latest Little Golden Book rescued from an Op shop.

Heard about this cool 1964 book when I read Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman. Her dad Clifton was S&S‘s editor-in-chief & The New Yorker book critic. He thought young kid‘s books in that era were too easy to read & not challenging enough. He believed children‘s lit must be “smarted up” rather than “dumbed down.” Hence this creative story about a very hungry bookworm who decides to feast on the dictionary for fun word to munch on and learn.🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

One of our favorite restaurants uses choose-your-own-adventure books to give patrons their checks. I approve. (They also have photos of Danzig and heavy metal cats in the bathrooms.)

This poem is one of the reasons that this book was often banned in the 90s. Sigh.
