I meant to do this ages ago, but better late than never. I bought this book twice, read and enjoyed it, and recommend it to JA fans. I hope my extra copy finds a good home!
As I was leaving my tutoring session this morning, I stopped at the cart outside marked free books. Now, I had the strength to pass it going inside, but to pass it twice and not peek was more than I could handle. And of course, I had to take one home! #pemberlittens
pickI‘m curious about the low rating here. This was an interesting read, a low pick for me. Harman traces Austen‘s trajectory from struggling unpublished author through brief success and then the ups and downs after her death. I wish some of the attributed quotes had included an explanation of just who this speaker was (just a name with no clues why we should care, or perhaps we should know who this is?), but overall found this pretty interesting.
“The fact that it [first film adaptation of P&P] was an American production of a British classic gently reflected the relation of the Allies in the war and the heritage that both countries were jointly defending.”
Well, that‘s a nice sentiment and all, but in 1940 while this was being filmed the US WASN‘T defending anything yet...
