GIVEAWAY! Enter with a comment on this post by 5 pm CT on Friday, 23 February, to win this lovely NF book about Jane Austen‘s works and how we came to get them. I‘ll draw a winner out of a hat and send it off next week.
I meant to do this ages ago, but better late than never. I bought this book twice, read and enjoyed it, and recommend it to JA fans. I hope my extra copy finds a good home!
As I was leaving my tutoring session this morning, I stopped at the cart outside marked free books. Now, I had the strength to pass it going inside, but to pass it twice and not peek was more than I could handle. And of course, I had to take one home! #pemberlittens
I‘m curious about the low rating here. This was an interesting read, a low pick for me. Harman traces Austen‘s trajectory from struggling unpublished author through brief success and then the ups and downs after her death. I wish some of the attributed quotes had included an explanation of just who this speaker was (just a name with no clues why we should care, or perhaps we should know who this is?), but overall found this pretty interesting.
“The fact that it [first film adaptation of P&P] was an American production of a British classic gently reflected the relation of the Allies in the war and the heritage that both countries were jointly defending.”
Well, that‘s a nice sentiment and all, but in 1940 while this was being filmed the US WASN‘T defending anything yet...
The last #bookhaul pic, I promise - mostly inspired by the #PemberLittens! What‘s embarrassing, though, is that the last post for the tagged was mine...when I bought it two years ago 🤦🏻♀️. At least I haven‘t spent much on either copy! So stay tuned for a future giveaway of my extra.

Dollar store #bookhaul for @BookaholicNatty today! The tagged book is for me, the rest is for the class. My first time getting books at the dollar store (my usual store has a pitiful book section) but it won't be the last.
Anyone else sign up for this course through Future Learn? I‘ve taken courses in the past, but I‘m very excited about this one, for obvious reasons. 😉 The course material is available starting today, and you can still sign up. Visit https://www.futurelearn.com for more information.
In #homage to Jane Austen, I give you a picture of two of my Austen related books in my collection. Harman writes about the fanaticism over Austen, using what we know of Jane‘s life and Jane‘s overall legacy to tell Jane‘s full story.
Growing Older examines the art of aging in Jane‘s novels. #aprella
