so-soIf this book wasn't so short, I definitely would have DNF'd early. The first ~30 pages were so hard to get into, and I really only started liking it about ~90 pages in. Felt very Hemingway/Fitzgerald, if those dudes had been around in early 2000's Spain. But after awhile, the MC's struggles because more understandable, and his clear Imposter Syndrome was more sympathetic. This is a so-so for me, a solid 3⭐. If it were longer, it would be a Pan.
so-soQuite a self indulgent novel, interesting in a few sections, but it is hard to like a novel where the central character is a compulsive liar.

This one has gotten very mixed reviews, but it might just be up my alley. And what a gorgeous cover!
"From my apartment I would walk down Calle de las Huertas, nodding to the street cleaners in their lime-green jumpsuits..." I remember them! From the first page, taking me right back to my semester in Madrid.
Just saw Ben Lerner at a coffee shop and told him I liked his books. He said, "thanks." Then I thought about how much I liked his books. I sure did like his books.
