After Dune which did a great job of setting up all the concepts and worldbuilding, Dune Messiah as one of the perfect sequels, Children of Dune is my least favorite from these 3 so far. However, it is the most eventful, more planets characters and somehow is even darker than the second book. Check your the details in our discussion about it on the Mind duck Books podcast ep. 65: https://bit.ly/49XgTD9

Personally I was very into this story and thought the dynamics between the siblings/Jessica/Alia and everybody was very interesting. Almost as good as the first book in my opinion

Characters aren't the strongest aspect in these books: characters' motives are sometimes a bit hard to understand.

This felt more like the book 1, world and atmosphere were amazing. There was also so much plotting and twists that it was even a bit hard to keep up with them :D

Writing makes these a bit struggle to read. You find so many nice quotes but at the same time these are also demanding to read.

Entertaining.

Finished Children of Dune yesterday! I love the universe Herbert built so I had fun reading it, but ultimately I‘m not sure how I feel about it. I thought it was a better book than Messiah, but also I feel ambivalent about the way it treated many characters (especially The Preacher, IYKYK 👀). Also, it was at times difficult to ascertain characters‘ motives for certain actions, but one may also argue that is half the fun 😅

Bookbuyingaddict @CrowCAH I watched the film for the first time on Saturday night and it blew me away ! So now I‘m googling buying the box set ; fantasy is not usually my bag but I think these will be ! 😀 3y
CrowCAH @Karons1 did you read the first book before watching? Or watched and now you want to read? I ask because the new Dune film I felt you had to have read the book before to fully appreciate everything they put in (and left out) of the film. But if you didn‘t know the text ahead of time, I‘m mildly surprised you loved the film that much. It‘s a bit slow, but does have some cool shots and action sequences. The second movie should be more exciting! 3y
Bookbuyingaddict @CrowCAH hi 👋🏻 no i hadn‘t read the book but yet the Film gripped me ; probably because I was so tired 🥱 after a day of travelling I just switched off and zoned into it with chocolates and wine 😂im looking to buy the box set of books now and buddy read with @supanovashelley 😍😍can‘t wait for the 2nd film either 😀 3y

It appears I forgot to review this one in the series. Most of it is great characters doing action packed things, with good plotting. However a central character gets the shaft (both in terms of writing and in terms of plot) leading some to probably not like it. I would read it, bearing that in mind however.

Continuing with the Dune series, seeing how far I will get. This one definitely took a lot of brain power to try and wrap my head around everyone‘s schemes and lines of thought. Enjoyable but definitely confusing in parts, feel like I need to re-read a few more times to understand everything.

Number four on my #Bookspinbonanza list

Again a great book! I enjoyed the two other books in the original trilogy as well and this one is just as good. Or maybe even better. Those books are not easy to read, they need their time, but I think they're absolutely worth it ❤

There's a beautifully constructed chapter, beginning with Leto Atreides' seemingly innocuous comment to Stilgar, "Have you noticed how beautiful the young women are this year?", which sets the old man's thoughts running on culture, tradition and government. It's a passage that draws on all that's happened in the trilogy so far, and sets the scene for the rest of the book. I'd not really noticed it before, and is why I re-read my favourite books ?

My hubby & I recently started rewatching TNG but have only watched 5 episodes so far. I remember so little of the older episodes that it‘s almost like watching them for the first time! Anyway, since we haven‘t made it to season 2 yet & I can‘t remember much of the episode, here are a few books from my shelves with Child/Children titles. I‘ve read all except The Darkling Child & I‘ve read the tagged book multiple times. #TheChild #StarTrekSummerMay

Megabooks So many good SciFi books with child in the title! My dad got me the DVDs in 2005, and I started from the beginning. I‘ve since watched them on Hulu, too. Some of my favorites were in Season 2, so I‘m excited for you to get there! Picard‘s closing argument in The Measure of a Man is one of the best pieces of acting in Star Trek period, IMO. 🖖🏻 6y

I've read the Dune trilogy a dozen times in my collected edition. Because I had that volume, I didn't buy the separate books when they were first published by NEL with the gorgeous Bruce Pennington covers. Big error of judgement! It's taken me years to get copies in a good enough condition, but I finally found a nice copy of CoD yesterday, and I'm happy - Herbert and Pennington go together like tea and toast (with marmite) 😊

Leftcoastzen Great looking ! can understand why you were on the hunt for them. 6y
Bookwomble @Leftcoastzen Bruce Pennington is my absolute favourite book cover artist. His art is often better than the books inside his covers - Though not in the case of Frank Herbert, of course. 😁 6y

The best of both worlds. The politics and mind games from the second book are back and it starts with similar slow pacing. But as the book turns to the 4th quarter, it picks up with better pacing than the 1st book. Leto the second is more daring and complex of a character. The dynamic between him and his sister fell short to me. But other than that the development that alot of the characters went through was amazing to see. 9/10 a must read.

While Dune may be the best in the series, Children of Dune is my personal favorite thus far. Continuing the trend of presenting insightful and relevant observations about man's nature, this book makes some crazy points about religion. Also, without spoiling anything, the ending of this book changes everything about this series. 9.3/10 stars.
