Just reading Children of Dune by a waterfall on campus! Oh the irony!
After Dune which did a great job of setting up all the concepts and worldbuilding, Dune Messiah as one of the perfect sequels, Children of Dune is my least favorite from these 3 so far. However, it is the most eventful, more planets characters and somehow is even darker than the second book. Check your the details in our discussion about it on the Mind duck Books podcast ep. 65: https://bit.ly/49XgTD9
Muad‘Dib‘s teachings have become the playground of scholastics, of the superstitious and the corrupt.

really pretty incredible book like damn it felt like more was happening than in the original dune, and the world was just so fleshed out by this point that he could go buck wild. i heard the next book is even crazier
Personally I was very into this story and thought the dynamics between the siblings/Jessica/Alia and everybody was very interesting. Almost as good as the first book in my opinion
Characters aren't the strongest aspect in these books: characters' motives are sometimes a bit hard to understand.
This felt more like the book 1, world and atmosphere were amazing. There was also so much plotting and twists that it was even a bit hard to keep up with them :D
Writing makes these a bit struggle to read. You find so many nice quotes but at the same time these are also demanding to read.
Entertaining.

“The future remains uncertain and so it should, for it is the canvas upon which we paint our desires. Thus always the human condition faces a beautifully empty canvas. We possess only this moment in which to dedicate ourselves continuously to the sacred presence which we share and create.”
“To claim absolute knowledge is to become monstrous. Knowledge is an unending adventure at the edge of uncertainty.”
“There‘s no mystery about a human life. It‘s not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.”
“The joy of living, its beauty is all bound up in the fact that life can surprise you.”
“Economics versus beauty, a story older than Sheba.”
“Better the complexities one thought he knew than the complexities which defied understanding.“
Finished Children of Dune yesterday! I love the universe Herbert built so I had fun reading it, but ultimately I‘m not sure how I feel about it. I thought it was a better book than Messiah, but also I feel ambivalent about the way it treated many characters (especially The Preacher, IYKYK 👀). Also, it was at times difficult to ascertain characters‘ motives for certain actions, but one may also argue that is half the fun 😅

Chani is a good mom to the twins. She and Paul try to prepare them for the Golden Path future.
Happy Mother‘s Day!
This book was batshit crazy… can‘t decide if I like it or if it was all a bit too much!
#FallTreasures Day 14: Pleasantly surprised to find out this was #PublishedYearYouWereBorn. Maybe I should start this series soon before the film adaptation is released in this lifetime?
It appears I forgot to review this one in the series. Most of it is great characters doing action packed things, with good plotting. However a central character gets the shaft (both in terms of writing and in terms of plot) leading some to probably not like it. I would read it, bearing that in mind however.
I don‘t blame everyone for how weird they think I am tbh 😅 Dune with a Hedwig bookmark. #nerd #harrypotter #dune #fantasy
Continuing with the Dune series, seeing how far I will get. This one definitely took a lot of brain power to try and wrap my head around everyone‘s schemes and lines of thought. Enjoyable but definitely confusing in parts, feel like I need to re-read a few more times to understand everything.
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 6

Again a great book! I enjoyed the two other books in the original trilogy as well and this one is just as good. Or maybe even better. Those books are not easy to read, they need their time, but I think they're absolutely worth it ❤
@TheAromaOfBooks
There's a beautifully constructed chapter, beginning with Leto Atreides' seemingly innocuous comment to Stilgar, "Have you noticed how beautiful the young women are this year?", which sets the old man's thoughts running on culture, tradition and government. It's a passage that draws on all that's happened in the trilogy so far, and sets the scene for the rest of the book. I'd not really noticed it before, and is why I re-read my favourite books ?
After a little poetry palate cleanser, I'm back for the final book in the classic Dune trilogy 😊
My hubby & I recently started rewatching TNG but have only watched 5 episodes so far. I remember so little of the older episodes that it‘s almost like watching them for the first time! Anyway, since we haven‘t made it to season 2 yet & I can‘t remember much of the episode, here are a few books from my shelves with Child/Children titles. I‘ve read all except The Darkling Child & I‘ve read the tagged book multiple times. #TheChild #StarTrekSummerMay
I've read the Dune trilogy a dozen times in my collected edition. Because I had that volume, I didn't buy the separate books when they were first published by NEL with the gorgeous Bruce Pennington covers. Big error of judgement! It's taken me years to get copies in a good enough condition, but I finally found a nice copy of CoD yesterday, and I'm happy - Herbert and Pennington go together like tea and toast (with marmite) 😊
"If you focus your awareness only upon your own rightness, then you invite the forces of opposition to overwhelm you.”
The best of both worlds. The politics and mind games from the second book are back and it starts with similar slow pacing. But as the book turns to the 4th quarter, it picks up with better pacing than the 1st book. Leto the second is more daring and complex of a character. The dynamic between him and his sister fell short to me. But other than that the development that alot of the characters went through was amazing to see. 9/10 a must read.
The universe neither threatens nor promises. It holds things beyond our sway: the fall of a #meteor...growing old and dying. These are the realities of this universe and they must be faced regardless of how you feel about them. You cannot fend off such realities with words. They will come at you in their own wordless way and...then you will understand what is meant by 'life and death.' Understanding this, you will be filled with joy." #QuotsyAug18

“He was aware now of many things—of statecraft and profound consequences in the smallest decisions. Yet he felt this knowledge and subtlety as a thin veneer covering an iron core of simpler, more deterministic awareness. And that older core called out to him, pleaded with him for a return to cleaner values.” #consequence #QuotsyMarch18
It's #Friday! I'm enjoying some much needed couch time with my penguin pal Gavin, a book, and a cup of tea before we go out for supper. Later, hubby & I will continue our X-Files binge. We're almost at the end of season 5 😊HappinessIsResistance
Happy Saturday reading with my favorite Outlander coffee mug❤️
While Dune may be the best in the series, Children of Dune is my personal favorite thus far. Continuing the trend of presenting insightful and relevant observations about man's nature, this book makes some crazy points about religion. Also, without spoiling anything, the ending of this book changes everything about this series. 9.3/10 stars.
