Based on the reviews I had read, I didn‘t particularly expect to enjoy this book, but I ended up invested in the characters. It‘s a story of a love triangle in which things really do seem the best when Jonathan, Bobby, and Clare are all together, yet they can never truly be happy with that unconventional decision. It‘s also a story of friendship, family, and loss.

I finished it this morning on another walk with Luthien.

So much to think about, how to be yourself when you never quite fit in. Needing to find that home and self. Very reflective book.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I really loved this. We follow 2 boys from Cleveland, seeing the difficulties inside each one‘s family from their child‘s point of view - then as they become friends, grow and change and move away - we also get a mother and a girlfriend‘s point of view. Cunningham does self reflection like no-one else; this is a deeply naval gazing book for sure - but done so well. I fell in love with Bobby and the way he sees the world is so unique.⬇️

First paragraph of this book. I love Michael Cunningham‘s writing. “Don‘t ask me. I was five.”
