First paragraph of this book. I love Michael Cunningham‘s writing. “Don‘t ask me. I was five.”
Brilliant.
I‘m only 20% in so no judgement yet on plot or characterisation - but the writing is so good. 🙌
Freespirit Lovely start....the plastic bags remind me of my grandmother who recycled EVERYTHING!😂😂😂 4y
MicheleinPhilly This reminds me - I should re-read some Michael Cunningham! 4y
batsy Ha, I love it! 😆 My mother is 81 this year and because I'm the youngest who's always having to answer all of her questions when my older siblings check out of a conversation 🙄, she keeps asking me if I remember things that happened before I was born 😭 4y

Centique @batsy you‘ll have to use that quote then! 😂 My dad will sometimes do that when he mixes me up with one of my three older sisters. “It‘s like that place we used to stay in Orewa” “Right, that would be when you took the girls in the sixties before I was born” “Well you‘ve seen the photos haven‘t you?” #Dad1-Paula0 😂😂 4y
batsy @Centique Ahahaha! That's my mum's response, too wrt "there's photos, why don't you remember" ?? 4y
BarbaraBB Great opening of the book. Cunningham used to be an auto-buy for me. 4y
Reggie There‘s a whole world in this page. This is wonderful. 4y
Centique @Reggie I know right? I wonder how long he wrote and rewrote and fine tuned to get it perfect? It‘s a heartbreaker this book so far 💔 4y
