I love this story line. It‘s engaging for students and me when I was younger. Pictures are great.
I would definity read this book in a classroom. It would make a great lesson for empathy and reading others feelings based on how they look and body language. You could also talk about how good it is to have a friendship and be a friend.
“Thinking about his friend gave him the courage to journey on!“
The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santat Caldecott Medal Winner 2014
This has to be one of my favorite books I've read for my assignment yet! The intricate colors and drawings of the unimaginary friends is just so warm hearted and child like! The book also bring out a sense of empathy that I think kids could really learn from and resonate with!
I would use this book to show to never give up on dreams and how sometimes when you wait everything will work out. I would do an activity to make your imaginary friend and how they came into the world and became their friend.
Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santat, 2014- Caldecott Award winner. This is a great book about perseverance and I love how simple but complex the illustrations are there is just enough detail to tell the story but not too much it is overwhelming. The way the pages are also sectioned at a time creates movement to the pages.
“The world began to feel a little less strange”
This story can be used to help encourage students to make friends or to be more imaginative.

This is a really fun and interesting book about “imaginary” friends and friendship. Beekle is an imaginary friend that goes out in search for a friend because no one has imagined him yet. The illustrations in this book are beautiful and really help tell the story!
“Every night he stood under the stars, hoping for his turn to be picked by a child and given a special name. He waited for many nights.“
This book is a great story to read to young children. This is because it teaches children how to make friends by having courage and talking to other peers. It also distinguishes between the real and imaginary world. Allowing children to see that it is okay to have imaginary friends, but knowing the difference between the two.
The Adventures of Beekle, 2014. This is a Caldecott Medal Winning Book. In this book, Beekle is an imaginary friend who has to wait until it is his turn to be imagined by a human. Once he is not imagined he decides to take an adventure to the real world. After some time he meets Alice at the park and she names him Beekle. They spend a lot of time together doing fun things; including, coloring, sharing snacks, and more.
“The world began to feel a little less strange,” this quote is so cute because it shows that just having someone to explore with can make everything calm down.
This is my favorite part of the book because it shows how in the adult world, everything loses color and nobody really stops to enjoy life. It reminds me of the movie Soul.
The book is really cute! I love how colorful and imaginative the pictures were created. The story is a very good representation of getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things although they may be weird and scary.

A super cute story about how Beekle goes into the real world and eventually finds a friend named Alice. When Beekle first entered the real world, it felt strange. However, after finding Alice, the world became less strange. This book was a super cute story about friendship and love.
This book is all about an imaginary friend that is on an island of other imaginary friends that are waiting to be imagined by a real child. The story highlights his journey to find his perfect friend. He lands in a city that is dark and dreary and then comes upon a colorful playground. At this playground he notices other imaginary friends with their humans. He then meets his human, Alice, and she shows him a picture of both of them.

I would use this book in my class because the images are engaging and children would love the humor in it.
This Caldecott winner had good illustrations throughout the entire book. The detail in the pictures really helps to extend the text and they also have vibrant colors to draw in the reader's attention.
This book was one of my favorite award winners because of the very reason it won an award. This book was a Caldecott Honor Book and is well beyond deserving because the images were incredible and truly brought the text to life.
I would use this in my future classroom because the idea is beyond what children normally think of, but something that they can relate to as they may have had an imaginary friend. Also, the images are stunning and would definitely keep them engaged.
