Let‘s have a #KindredSpiritsChristmas! Here‘s the schedule for December‘s story-a-day #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead. A couple years ago, we read L.M. Montgomery‘s holiday stories together in December, and I loved it so much I want to do it again. Let‘s enjoy these cozy stories and chat about them as we go! Some sources for where to find the stories are posted in the comments. Let me know if you‘re not tagged and you‘d like to be!

BarbaraJean This list is pulled together from several sources (I found a few more Christmas stories since last time!), so unfortunately not all the stories are available in one collection. Here are some options for where to find them. Use whatever works for you!

The tagged collection (ed. by Rea Wilmshurst) has 16 stories, and there are several LMM Christmas story collections and individual stories available on Hoopla (both audio & ebook). (More below ⬇)
1w
BarbaraJean Serial Reader has an LMM Christmas Stories collection with 13 stories. Online options are another good source: Project Gutenberg, fadedpage.com, online-literature.com, fullreads.com, etc. I‘ve also added in a Christmas novella by LMM that I came across this year while poking around on Hoopla: “A Merryvale Christmas.” The Hoopla audiobook is the only place I‘ve found it! I‘ve divided up its chapters over three days (15-18 minutes per day). 1w

Still wrapping up December reviews. This was a collection of old fashioned short stories. Each one was uplifting and celebrated a time when it was most exciting to go to a “taffy pull”! Just the kind of warmth that I needed. #blameitonlitsy #kindredspiritschristmas

I finished reading these stories for the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead.
#KindredSpiritsChristmas @BarbaraJean

They were very enjoyable. The themes were somewhat repetitive, but who doesn't like stories about families reconciling and people helping the less fortunate at this time of the year?

#WinterReadathon @Andrew65 @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

kwmg40 Here in Ontario, we're being hit hard with a winter storm. My own family members are all safe and cozy and only suffered a few hours' power outage. However, I felt for the train passengers who were stranded on a train with no food or water for 18 hours. I wished there had been an Aunt Cyrilla with a big Christmas basket to give them some joy! 2y
DieAReader 🥶❄️🎄🥳Great job! Stay warm🔥 2y
Andrew65 Well done 🎄🎄🎄 Stay tucked in reading at home. Seen pictures on the Internet, looks absolutely awful. 🥶🥶🥶 2y

BarbaraJean Thanks for joining in the buddy read! I feel for those train passengers, too—what a parallel to Aunt Cyrilla! And stranded passengers strikes a chord for me this year. I‘m in Southern California, so no winter snow for us, but my dad flew to Indiana with my niece & her husband to spend Christmas with my sister‘s family, and they got stuck at the Cincinnati airport overnight because the roads were closed between there and my sister‘s house. 🥶 2y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 2y
kwmg40 @DieAReader @Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the encouragement! Things are much better now, weather-wise. I hope that's also the case for those in other stricken areas.
2y
kwmg40 @BarbaraJean Sorry to hear that your family was also affected from the storm. The son of a good friend of mine missed coming home for Christmas because the trains were cancelled, but at least he didn't get caught on one of the ones that were stuck for almost a full day. 2y

repost for @BarbaraJean:

Hello Kindred Spirits! I planned to put together a calendar for the 2023 #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead, but the month has gotten away from me. (It doesn't help that I keep finding more Anne retellings that sound really good… or that I‘m indecisive!)

So—I‘m planning on Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson for January, and will come up with the rest of 2023 later 😆

Finished up this seasonal #kindredspiritsbuddyread in bed last night. Lots of making amends and focus on helping those less fortunate, for some sweet (but not too saccharine) stories. I especially enjoyed the ones laced with humor, but could see revisiting many of these in future Yuletide seasons.

Finishing this collection with another sweet story of goodwill and giving at Christmas. These LMM Christmas stories had lots of repeated themes, and some were a bit heavy-handed, but overall: they‘re lovely, cozy, and filled with kindness. I loved the reminders to take joy in giving and in being with others during this season. Thank you so much to everyone who read along with the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead for a #KindredSpiritsChristmas!

AnnR Thank you for hosting @BarbaraJean. I enjoyed the stories too and might not have read them without the buddy read. 2y
TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed reading through these and definitely see myself rereading them again next year. They were sometimes a little sappy, but overall the themes of forgiveness and generosity really resonated with me. 2y

Surely it can‘t be the same Josie Pye!

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “Ida‘s New Year Cake” - 12/17/22

I have to say, a fruitcake would not be such an attraction for me as to invite a whole boardinghouse over to make merry, but this story did make it sound enticing. And again, such a sweet gesture of kindness at the holidays… with a reminder to keep that kindness throughout the year. 💜
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

I finished the L.M. Montgomery holiday stories today. Along with several at Christmas, there was a Thanksgiving story and a few set at the New Year. Most were in this collection along with a few more. I read almost all of them in print and listened to all of this collection on audio as well. Many express the same themes, but I enjoyed each of them in their own way.

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “Uncle Richard‘s New Year‘s Dinner” - 12/16/22

I like Prissy Baker‘s New Year‘s plans! I love that she looks regretfully back at her book as she leaves the house… I felt that moment. 😁 And here we have another reconciliation story!
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

TheAromaofBooks I really liked this one, Prissy's willingness to give up a quiet, relaxing day (seriously a sacrifice) to go do something nice for someone who hasn't been kind to her. LMM talks a lot about people being to stubborn to admit they're in the wrong! 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “The Josephs‘ Christmas” - 12/15/22

Late post tonight—a busy week & I‘m getting stressed about all the Christmas things. 😩 This story was a lovely close to the day, once I could slow down & enjoy it. I especially loved this little note at the end, that even with all the wonderful gifts they could have desired—the little Josephs still appreciated the homemade gifts they‘d made for each other. 💜 #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

TheAromaofBooks Sorry you are feeling stressed!! Thank you for still taking the time to post for us every day. ❤ 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - 12/14/22 - “A Christmas Inspiration”

LMM‘s Christmas stories seem to primarily focus on either a reconciliation between estranged friends/family, or on giving to the needy, forgotten, or left out. And I am here. for. it. Love, love, loved today‘s story. I feel like I got to know each of the characters more in this one than in the other stories so far. Such a sweet tale of giving at Christmas. ❤️ #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

julieclair I absolutely loved this story! The true meaning of Christmas. And I really liked how they decided to keep up the "niceness" throughout the year, thus keeping the Christmas spirit alive! 2y
TheAromaofBooks This story had me all choked up! It was definitely one where the “lesson“ flowed seamlessly through the story so you didn't feel like you were getting preached to, but still felt inspired by it. 2y
Prairiegirl_reading I agree. I am also loving the spirit of generosity and reconciliation. So lovely. 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - “The Falsoms‘ Christmas Dinner” - 12/13/22

As soon as the rich uncle said he was coming for Christmas dinner, I knew it would be all right, in spite of any mishaps along the way. 😆 Another sweet story of needs provided & quarrels reconciled. I‘m struck by how often LMM‘s characters say things they regret, but are too proud to admit they were wrong. A nice little moral of the story here! #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

Daisey I‘ve been really enjoying these stories of Christmas reconciliation! A little humor and so much heart. 💕 2y
TheAromaofBooks I was kind of impressed with the tramp's ability to snatch up an entire Christmas dinner including a whole turkey and multiple pies. Did he bring a basket?? 😂 2y

BarbaraJean @Daisey I think the reconciliation stories are my favorites! @TheAromaofBooks 😂😂 He MUST have had a basket like Aunt Cyrilla‘s! 😆 2y
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks You are always one step ahead of me! I have ideas for next year, but haven‘t posted anything yet because I need to do it from my computer, where I have my book list & tag list saved! I‘m thinking about alternating months with nonfiction (biographies, LMM‘s autobiog, books about her work) and LMM-adjacent fiction (Budge Wilson‘s prequel, Diana of Orchard Slope, etc.). I need to put a poll out there and see who‘s interested in what! 2y
TheAromaofBooks I honestly just couldn't remember if you had already posted a schedule or not 😂 I always start thinking about my next month's reading around the middle of the month so I can get books from the library, so that's what got me going!! I also couldn't remember if we have any LMM books but not-short-story-collections left to read! 2y
TheAromaofBooks But all that to say... no rush haha I was mostly making sure I hadn't forgotten it, not trying to pressure you to hurry 😆 2y
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks I‘ve been thinking about it but haven‘t DONE anything, so the prompt is good!! January is SO close 😬 I‘m pretty sure we‘ve exhausted all the books that aren‘t short story collections (and I‘m not super interested in those anyway). Her autobiography & journals could be interesting, though, as well as the contemporary fanfic/retelling type stuff. I‘ll post something soon. People need to plan their BookSpin lists, after all! 😁 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - 12/12/22 - “The Christmas Surprise at Enderly Road”

It‘s lovely to finish out my Monday with this story of two boys taking it upon themselves to plan a Christmas surprise for a disappointed little girl—and by extension, building goodwill between two communities.🎄🥰
#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

#KindredSpiritsChristmas - 12/11/22 - “A Christmas Mistake”

We‘re back to usual cozy LMM fare with today‘s story. As soon as I got to the description of the rift between Mrs. Grant and Cornelia Millar, I thought “Oh, yay—it‘s going to be a mistake-leads-to-reconciliation story!” Yes, these are predictable, but still sweet. And I loved the absent-minded schoolteacher… reminded me of Anne! #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

AnneCecilie Actually when I first read Cornelia, I thought it was Anne‘s kindred spirit friend, but I don‘t think it is. 2y

This morning I found my copy of Anne of Windy Poplars to read “Katherine Brooke Comes to Green Gables” and enjoyed the positive change in Katherine.

This evening I read “The Red Room” and agree it‘s an interesting addition to a Christmas collection with the holiday having little impact on the story. The final climactic scene is later. That said, I did find this dark story fascinating as it‘s quite different from many of LMM‘s stories.

BarbaraJean I have that same copy of Windy Poplars. 😊 I do love Katherine's transformation, especially the way the Green Gables folk give her a sense of belonging for the first time!

It's so interesting to me that LMM chose to set “The Red Room“ around a Christmas visit. This is another story that feels like it was written kind of to order, for a specific audience/magazine, rather than in her usual style.
2y
Daisey @BarbaraJean I agree, it seems to me the setting of Christmas was either to fit a request or just an excuse to bring the whole family together. Even the description of the celebration seems generic rather than holiday like. Yet, I did enjoy this as a complete change from her normal writing, as sometimes her short stories get a bit repetitive for me. 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead - 12/9/22

I love this section of Windy Poplars, and loved reading it by itself as a Christmas story. The descriptions of Green Gables and the Avonlea landscape in winter, seeing Katherine open up as she‘s welcomed by the Green Gables folk… I feel like it‘s a lovely Christmas story in its own right. Had you read it as part of Windy Poplars? Did it work for you outside the context of the novel? ⤵️

BarbaraJean Heads up for tomorrow: we diverge from the Christmas with Anne collection with the addition of “The Red Room” to our list. I was going to take it out, because it decidedly does NOT feel like a Christmas story—but it's included in a couple lists of LMM Christmas stories, and it does take place as part of a Christmas visit, so—here we go.😆 It's available here (probably elsewhere, too): http://www.online-literature.com/lucy_montgomery/1896-1901/14/ (edited) 2y
TheAromaofBooks It was kind of fun to read this one by itself. I think you lose some of just how grumpy and unwelcoming Katherine was at first, but it has always been one of my favorite turning points for a character. How horrid to spend your entire life feeling that everyone viewed you as an inconvenient burden to be shouldered! And I'm SO glad that she got a puppy!!! 2y
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks Yes, I think Katherine's transformation loses a little something when you don't read how awful she was early on. You get a little of it when Anne invites her, but you also see the desperation and her bitterness makes more sense. But I do so love her character and the way she just blossoms when she lets herself open up. And that Anne gets her a puppy (and that EVERYONE else gets her little presents) is just delightful! 🐶🎄 (edited) 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead - 12/8/22 - “Clorinda's Gifts“

I‘ve never liked Christmas lists. They always feel like grocery lists to me—and I used to think that a gift just bought off a list was less meaningful. If someone was buying me a gift, they should know me well enough to choose something I‘d like! Then I‘d be (perhaps unfairly) disappointed to receive a gift that showed the person didn‘t know me very well. ⤵️

BarbaraJean As I‘ve gotten older, I‘ve realized that lists can help people get to know you better, to better understand the kinds of things you enjoy. But I still don‘t really like Christmas lists. Today‘s story reminded me of why—“something of you—the best of you” doesn‘t necessarily go into a gift off a list. A gift from a list can do that, but a list can also make it easy to leave that part out. So I ended up loving this story more than I thought I would! 2y

“The Unforgotten One” wasn‘t one of my favorites, but I could appreciate the bittersweet sentiment of missing a loved one at Christmas.

“Clorinda‘s Gifts” was back to the theme of self-sacrificing. This one won‘t be a favorite either, but it was a good reminder to think of what we can do for others rather than just spending money on material gifts.

Today‘s #KindredSpiritsChristmas story was a bit too sentimental for me. I love the way LMM can sketch a character with just a few lines of dialogue or description, but these characters felt more generic. And I missed the usual touch of humor. But I‘ve had a bit of a Jonah day, so maybe it‘s just me! What did you think: too sentimental/saccharine? Or was it sweet and heartfelt for you? (Also: Ingleside with no Blythes?!) #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

sblbooks You're not alone, this was my least favorite. Too depressing. Also, I think my chapters may be out of order. There must be several anthologies, and maybe they're not exactly the same. 2y
Daisey I agree that I was a bit confused to be reading about and Ingleside with different characters. I didn‘t connect well with the vague characters, but I did appreciate the bittersweet aspect of missing someone so much at Christmas time. 2y
TheAromaofBooks I think the Ingleside thing must have been an example of LMM playing with names/concepts that she used later in her full novels, but it did give me a bit of a jolt! This one did feel a little sappy, but I think the message that we can't always tell what someone is feeling/going through by how they act/what they say did come through. 2y
See All 9 Comments
AnnR I'm glad others didn't find The Unforgotten to be a favorite. The story seemed forced and dreary. The reader doesn't really get to know much about the characters at all, except they all come round by the end of the story. Short story writing must be difficult though, with so little time to tick off a lot of boxes as far as plot development and characterization. 2y
julieclair I agree, this was not my favorite. I look to LMM for comfort and a bit of humor, but this one just made me feel sad. Interestingly, I think the best-developed character was Avis, because we got to hear the things everyone said about why they missed her. I think she was someone I would have enjoyed knowing. 2y
BarbaraJean @sblbooks Argh, I‘m sure you‘re right that different collections have the stories in a different order. I used the order from Christmas with Anne, since that seemed to be the most common one. But there are a couple that weren‘t in that collection, so those will come up as we go on! I‘ll start putting the name of each story and the day on my posts so it‘s clearer which story we‘re on! (edited) 2y
BarbaraJean @Daisey @TheAromaofBooks I looked up when this story was published—apparently the Christmas stories were published between 1898 & 1910, which would place this one before either House of Dreams or Anne of Ingleside. So your thought is correct, Sarah! Still so strange to read a name that has all the Anne connections! I relate to the bittersweet missing someone at the holidays, and the message at the end, but it all seemed too heavy-handed! 2y
BarbaraJean @Ann_Reads I agree—it felt forced. With LMM‘s short stories, I often wonder if they are less “her” and more commercial—written to cater to a magazine audience that wants, for example, a sentimental tear-jerker Christmas story! @julieclair I definitely got a clearer picture of Avis than the others. I wouldn‘t have minded that with a different setting, though—if the family had shared their memories with each other instead of alone at her grave. 2y
TheAromaofBooks The introduction in my copy of this collection says that most of these were published in magazines and that not-infrequently LMM was requested to include a specific “lesson“ or moral, so I do think that some of these stories were more “pay the bills“ type than they were something genuinely written from the heart lol @sblbooks @Daisey @Ann_Reads @julieclair 2y

I love today‘s story for #KindredSpiritsChristmas, and the way Aunt Cyrilla was able to bring a group of strangers together for a lovely improvised celebration, making the most of what they had. BUT, let‘s just take a moment to ponder the list of items in Aunt Cyrilla‘s Christmas basket. Never mind how big the basket was that she was able to fit it all in. HOW DID SHE CARRY IT?!? #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

AnneCecilie I enjoyed this story too. I think it must have been magical, like Hermione‘s bag in the last HP book. 2y
quietjenn Well, they are good at packing. 😄 But dang, it must have been heavy! 2y
BarbaraJean @slategreyskies @AnneCecilie It definitely seemed like there had to be magic involved for all of that list to fit inside! @sblbooks It was a perfect story for you! I loved how all these strangers came together to support each other and how each one left having helped someone else or being given just what they needed. 2y
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks I loved how she matter-of-factly said she‘d have to leave the pig, but could make room for the chicken. 😂 @quietjenn I kept trying to imagine how many bags of groceries all of that would translate into, and if I‘d be able to carry that many bags in from my car in one trip. 😆 2y

I have an artificial tree, but I love the scent of cedar, so this afternoon I took a walk & cut branches for my kitchen before reading today‘s story. These daily stories are perfect for the weeks leading up to Christmas. I enjoyed both “The End of the Young Family Feud” yesterday & “Aunt Cyrilla‘s Christmas Basket” today. They‘re such sweet stories with uplifting messages.

We put the tree up today, and this was my view for my #KindredSpiritsChristmas reading tonight! Today‘s story was another sweet one, with mistakes turned to good in the end. LMM seems to use the theme of reconciliation frequently, and it‘s a theme I usually enjoy—I like how it plays out here. #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

I read “Christmas at Red Butte” on my phone with a sleeping Luthien curled up beside me. I loved this one, and it reminded me of Louisa May Alcott‘s Christmas stories with the struggling family full of hope, a sacrifice to make sure Christmas happens for the children, and a happy ending.

I might say this about (almost) all of these Christmas stories, but: what a sweet story! The struggling family, the hopeful children, the sacrifices made to ensure a happy Christmas, and the Christmas Day happy ending. ❤️🎄I loved the children‘s confidence that Santa would come because they wrote him a letter and “threw it up the chimney.” No doubt the best method to communicate with Santa! 😂

AnnR I'm just catching up on the stories after making a last minute decision to join in. I really liked the family atmosphere but felt badly about Theodora needing to sell an heirloom that meant so much to her. Given the ending, I hope she can buy it back. 🙂 2y
AnneCecilie This story had me thinking about when I was a kid and how much I was looking forward to the presents. Only goes to show that kids doesn‘t really change that much no matter what time they are born into. 2y
BarbaraJean @Prairiegirl_reading I know, right? A whole Christmas for $4! @Ann_Reads Glad to have you joining in! I had the same thought about the ending. 😊 @AnneCecilie I think that aspect of Christmas may be universal for kids, regardless of time or place! 2y

#KindredSpiritsChristmas day 2 takes us back to Green Gables! I just love Matthew. His determination to get Anne a pretty dress, in spite of his shyness, is just the sweetest. I loved seeing the romantic gesture from Gilbert at the concert, and Anne‘s “lofty” comment: “I simply never waste a thought on him, Diana.” 😂 Then Marilla‘s reluctantly expressed but heartfelt affection for Anne. 💜 Such beloved characters! #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

TheAromaofBooks Matthew shopping for the dress is one of my favorite scenes in the movie as well. The perky, helpful clerk is done so well, and I lose it every time he asks for the garden rake 😂 2y
Prairiegirl_reading This was such a sweet story but oh how I cringed when I realized the Cuthberts vote Conservative! Lol! Of course they would have but it caught me of guard for a second. 😂 2y
BarbaraJean @TheAromaofBooks 😂 My favorite detail on this reading was the clerk‘s bangles, which are just the final straw for poor Matthew. @Prairiegirl_reading Ha! I have a feeling they were quite a different breed of Conservative than the cringe-worthy ones of today!! 2y

I‘m not really feeling the Christmas spirit yet this year, but I started my day by listening to “Matthew Insists on Puffed Sleeves” while getting ready and uplifting Christmas music on my way to school. I definitely think these daily stories will help. For this buddy read, I‘m going to do a combination of audio (on Hoopla) and print.

December 2nd
Matthew Insists on Puffed Sleeves

I loved being back at Green Gables with Anne, Matthew and Marilla. Who can ever forget Anne‘s talk and wish for puffed sleeves and how happy she was when Matthew bought her a dress with them for Christmas.

And to quote Anne: “Merry Christmas, Marilla! Merry Christmas, Matthew! Isn‘t it a lovely Christmas? I‘m so glad it‘s white. Any other kind of Christmas doesn‘t seem real, does it?”

BarbaraJean I‘m looking forward to reading this one tonight! 2y
AnneCecilie @BarbaraJean This extract made me realize how much I miss Anne and everyone else at Green Gables (edited) 2y
AnnR Yesterday I was reading the comments here and decided to bail on another holiday anthology and read Christmas with Anne instead. I'm still catching up on the stories but read this one last night. It is easy to get caught up in Anne's youthful exuberance for Christmas and snow and most especially puffed sleeves. Matthew is so sweet, too. 2y
AnneCecilie @Ann_Reads There is something cozy about Montgomery‘s writing. And this scene is just so adorable. 2y

December 1st
From “Aunt Susanna‘s Thanksgiving Dinner”

Not the first time I‘ve encountered these kind of believes lately in books.

“I‘ve invited Mr and Mrs Gilbert to dinner today” and me instantly thinking about Anne and Gilbert, but I don‘t think it was actually them

#KindredSpiritsBuddyRead

Amiable Ha! I have a BS and an MS. My husband would testify that I am not now nor have I ever been a “housewifely, cookly creature.“ But I don't think it's the higher education. I just don't like to cook or clean. 😃 2y
AnneCecilie @Amiable I totally agree with you. But I guess men most have something to blame and a reason for not educating women. I‘m not a “housewifely, cookly creature” either, but that has more to do with the cleaning afterwards. 2y
BarbaraJean I do like the phrase “housewifely, cookly creature” even if I disagree with the sentiment expressed in Aunt Susanna‘s newspaper article! And I was thought of Anne & Gilbert when I saw that, too! 2y

Find the stories wherever you like, skip days if you can‘t find the story, binge several stories at once—you do you! The goal is to enjoy these cozy holiday stories & chat about them as we go. ⤵️

BarbaraJean I‘ll try for a post about each story (hopefully daily!) and will tag the group. Comment on my posts, write your own posts about each story, do a weekly round-up post, only post about the stories that interest you…whatever works for you. Please tag me so I can follow along with you! Where to find the stories? The tagged collection ed. by Rea Wilmshurst seems to be the most comprehensive, and includes excerpts from Green Gables and Windy Poplars. ⤵️ (edited) 2y
BarbaraJean Other options: Serial Reader has an LMM Christmas Stories collection, and I‘ve seen a couple “Christmas with Anne” titles on hoopla (with similar TOCs to the Wilmshurst collection). There are online options if you search around (Project Gutenberg, fadedpage.com, etc.), so feel free to find something that works for you. ⤵️ (edited) 2y
BarbaraJean And FINALLY… 😂 I‘ve tagged my whole list of people who participated in #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead at some point, but please let me know (if you haven‘t already) if you‘d like to be tagged for #KindredSpiritsChristmas. December will be an opt-in tag list so people can hop on just for the month if desired. 2y

quietjenn I'm in! And, if anyone is reading via Kindle or other device, I've pulled together a document with all of the stories (although I had to guess the beginning/end point for Katherine Brooke ...) from Project Gutenberg/Faded Page, and can email it to you as a Word document or pdf. This is what I did for the October stories and it worked well (although I can't promise there isn't the occasional error). 2y
BarbaraJean @quietjenn Oh, that is fantastic!! When I get home, I‘ll see if I can look up the Katherine Brooke excerpt and see where it starts & stops… I‘ve been meaning to do that for both of the Anne excerpts. 2y
BarbaraJean @quietjenn I checked on the excerpts and added chapter references to the chapter-a-day list. I‘m not sure where the Katherine Brooke excerpt is supposed to start and stop either, and I‘m not sure which collection I saw it in, so I just guessed as well! 2y
sblbooks Count me in! 2y
BarbaraJean @sblbooks Yay! I'll add you to the tag list! 2y

Mehso-so

I was a bit disappointed by this. Only two stories included Anne, and they were both retreaded excerpts from the novel series. The other stories became quite redundant. Too many of the other tales involved a family struggling at Christmas time and another family stepping in to give them a big holiday meal and/or estranged relatives coming together at Christmas time. A bit more variety would have helped!

TheSpineView Bummer...😕 3y
TheAromaofBooks I enjoy a lot of Montgomery's short stories, but because they are so frequently gathered into “themed“ collections, I think they can get rather same-y. 3y
