At Home with Jane Austen
At Home with Jane Austen | Kim Wilson
9 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Tour the homes and settings of Jane Austen, one of the most widely read and beloved authors in English literature, in this beautiful book featuring over 100 color photographs and illustrations. I shall be very glad to see you at home again, and then who will be so happy as we? Jane Austen From her youth in a country rectory in Steventon, a small village in Hampshire, England where she wrote her first stories for her friends, "Volume the First," "Volume the Second," and "Volume the Third" to the fashionable spa town of Bath, to the seaport of Southampton, to her final years in her last settled home at peaceful Chawton Cottage, where she penned her most famous novel, "Pride and Prejudice," Jane Austen s life was hardly that of a shut in. A regular visitor to London, to the seashore for holidays, and to the estates of friends and relatives, Jane carried her own notion of home with her wherever she went and drew inspiration for her brilliantly witty novels from every new experience. She wrote most everywhere she traveled, accompanied by her portable writing desk. With gorgeous photography and illustrations, "At Home with Jane Austen" explores Austen s world, her physical surroundings, and the journeys the popular author took during her lifetime. Author Kim Wilson ties Austen s novels to places where she lived, visited, and even attended school, ending with her final months in temporary lodgings in Winchester, England. Jane Austen s enduring legacy is the final chapter of this beautiful and eye opening book."

Pemberlitten Few pictures from today's celebration Jane Austen's Virtual Birthday Party hosted by Jane Austen's House. Followed by a turn about the grounds in golf cart. And because if you get the chance to pose dramatically on a rock, dressed in Regency costume, you should. 💙💙💙💙💙

In honor of Jane Austen‘s birthday, Amélie has declared that it is not a cone. It‘s a bonnet. #littenkitten #pemberlittens

CoffeeNBooks Awww, poor kitty. I love that it's a bonnet, not a cone, lol! Very creative. 😂 4y
Lcsmcat @CoffeeNBooks It doesn‘t make her like it any better, but at least it‘s less of an affront to her dignity. 😹 4y
Leftcoastzen 🥰 awww!😻 4y
LitStephanie I hope your elegant kitty heals fast! 4y
Lcsmcat @LitStephanie @Leftcoastzen She‘s feeling much better now that the cone has come off! 4y

It's Jane Austen's Birthday! In honor of that here's my collection. Fills the first shelf, extends into the 2nd, and oversized is on top. 🎂📚🥳

Bookwomble I've not read any Austen 😯 I think I'll remedy that next year. Have all her books in the house thanks to Mrs Bookwomble and her Mr Darcy obsession! 4y
Bookwomble We visited Bath in The Year Before the Virus (capitalization seems right!) and went round some Austen-related places. My interest has long been piqued, but I've never quite got around to her. I think the Pemberlittens propaganda campaign has finally got to me 😂 4y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Bookwomble we Pemberlittens are sneaky like that. 😉 4y

It's a beautiful evening in Oklahoma. Hummingbirds are twittering. I've a Wee Dram of Cardhu in my Pride and Prejudice glass. A light Speyside Single Malt that's perfect for Summer Sipping while enjoying a lovely book. 💚💚💚💚💚

Nute I am amazed at just how envious I can be over mugs and glasses. Good grief! I know now that what I want more than anything is a Pride and Prejudice glass.☺️ 6y
