Fire's Stone
Fire's Stone | Tanya Huff
6 posts | 7 read | 8 to read
It was a long fall from Clan Heir to common thief, but Aaron never wanted any part of his father's brutal outlander reign. In fact, besides coin purses and jewels, there's very little in all of Cisali that interests Aaron, until he stumbles-quite literally-into a prince's bedchamber... Prince Davish of Ischia is a skilled swordsman both on the field and beneath the sheets, at least when he isn't outrageously drunk. But the wine helps him forget all the ways he's disappointed his father, his family, and soon enough, his young bride-to-be... A trained Wizard of the Nine with more raw talent than real-world experience, Princess Chandra has no interest in the politically arranged marriage. She flees to the royal city of Ischia seeking a way out of the union. But there, she discovers something far more shocking than Prince Davish's rakish reputation... The Stone of Ischia has been stolen. A powerful talisman, The Stone protects the city from the active volcano that looms over its terraces and streets. Without it, Ischia will be destroyed and the kingdom of Cisali will fall. Its only hope is an unlikely band of heroes-a failed thief, a drunken prince, and a runaway wizard-who must face pirates, powerful magic, and their own carefully guarded secrets in order to find and restore the Stone of Ischia.

Adventure of three young people, each facing their own challenges (alcoholism, depression, trauma and denial, daddy issues, growing up). Some friendship, some gay romance, shitty backstories, pretty fast pace. This reads like YA... oh wait—this is YA! I wasn‘t aware. (Adjusting mindset...) A vivid world and interesting characters—even if the MacGuffin quest is but a background for their inner struggles—so I‘m counting this one as a win.

I enjoyed my 30 LGBTQ+ author project from June so much that I'm going to make it a weekly event! Every week, I'll share an #lgbtqvoices post about a new author. This week I picked a favorite of mine, Canadian writer Tanya Huff. Tanya is known as a prolific fantasy/sci-fi writer, and for having accidentally aquired a Chihuahua. #lgbtq #lgbtqauthors #fantasy #scifi

June 6: Today's book is another fantasy title because that genre makes up the majority of my reads. It follows a trio of characters from very different walks of life as they work to retrieve a stolen magic artifact. This book features a male relationship. #lgbt #lgbtq #lgbtqbook #pridemonth2020 #fantasy #lgbtqfantasy

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It took several directions I didn't expect, and the characters were fun to get to know. #lgbt #lgbtq #lgbtauthor #lgbtfantasy #magic #thief #prince #lgbtliterature #lgbtcharacter #queerbook #queerfantasy

Glad I finally got round to reading this. Love the way Chandra, Aaron and Dar learn to cover each other's weak spots.

Reread. I've been meaning to revisit this for a long time. Can't remember if Chandra is actually ace or just celibate.
