pickI‘ve seen other folks using this book for #lesotho, so I thought I would, too! And I liked it! I liked the story and characters and especially how it focuses on strong, badass women. I didn‘t like that the last section was a completely different story, but I‘m not a comics reader and maybe that‘s just how they work. 🤷🏼♀️

so-soI really wanted to love this one. Between the story, the queer characters, the writers behind it, and my love of Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, I feel like I should have. And yet it felt kind of lackluster. There were parts I enjoyed, but a lot of it felt slow and meandering and disconnected. I was ready to be done with it by the last few issues in the collection. Not bad, but dissapointing.

so-soI loved the Black Panther movie, and loved the idea of a comic about the Dora Milaje. While the story of Aneka and Ayo's relationship itself was compelling, the story as a whole felt more like a side note to the main storyline that apparently takes place in the Black Panther, Avengers, and Ultimate comics, taking awkward, disjointed jumps in time, which was disappointing. I still want to read Black Panther, but this one definitely left me wanting.
pickRoxane Gay‘s backstory about the relationship between the Midnight Angels, Aneka and Ayo, is entertaining, but my favourite part of this collection that focuses on the women of Wakanda is seeing some background in the life of Zenzi the revolutionary. That section is written by poet Yona Harvey. #lgbtq #comics
Have to use my #signedsundays to continue celebrating Wakanda and Black Panther. If you haven‘t read this side title, make a point to do so! It is a rich and powerful story of two Dora Milage caught between Love and duty. #wakandaforever

pickFor those who like Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther run, you'll want to pick up World of Wakanda written by Roxanne Gay. It provides some great background into the Dora Milaje, Ayo, and Aneka. It's a shame Marvel cancelled this series because it looked like they were going to explore snap shots of backgrounds for different characters in the Black Panther comics. But if you can be sure to at least read this great volume!
pickLoved this first volume of World of Wakanda and I hope Marvel reconsiders its decision not to continue the series. Roxane Gay signed this Wednesday night, and said it was the first copy of the trade she had seen. So at least for the one night, this #signedsundays book was one of a kind!
pickThe first 3 issues of World of Wakanda are brilliant. This series is the perfect companion to the current Black Panther series. Roxanne Gay brings a new voice into the world of comics, a voice that is needed. The story centres around Aneka & Ayo, 2 black queer women in a relationship w/one another. It's a story that needs to be told especially in mainstream comics & it's absolutely brilliant from what I've read so far. 💯 pick!
Spending my evening with a cup of tea in hand and working my way through my stack of comics. Invincible Iron Man, World of Wakanda, and Black Panther are up first.
