Building a Better Teacher: How Teaching Works (and How to Teach It to Everyone)
Building a Better Teacher: How Teaching Works (and How to Teach It to Everyone) | Elizabeth Green
5 posts | 1 to read
A New York Times Book Review Notable Book "A must-read book for every American teacher and taxpayer." Amanda Ripley, author of The Smartest Kids in the World Launched with a hugely popular New York Times Magazine cover story, Building a Better Teacher sparked a national conversation about teacher quality and established Elizabeth Green as a leading voice in education. Green's fascinating and accessible narrative dispels the common myth of the "natural-born teacher" and introduces maverick educators exploring the science behind their art. Her dramatic account reveals that great teaching is not magic, but a skilla skill that can be taught. Now with a new afterword that offers a guide on how to identifyand supportgreat teachers, this provocative and hopeful book "should be part of every new teachers education" (Washington Post).

Thanks for the tag @DarkMina
I'm a day late. But got a new phone yesterday 📱and took some time to figure it out! Woo!
1. I babysat a lot, but my official tax paying job was at Country Buffet as a cashier and hostess.
2. Yes, a first grade teacher, she was so kind.
3. Oh boy, I'm notorious for bad luck Birthday's. ER visits, food poisoning, rotten cheesecake that stunk up the entire house😝🤣

DarkMina You‘re welcome! When I got my current phone, my niece had to show me how to do some things on it. 😁 (edited) 3y
Tera66 @DarkMina The guy at technical support kept saying, "It's okay ma'am" while getting me set up. I think he pictured me as a old lady? 3y
Eggs @DarkMina @Tera66 haha intimidating technology 😳 But savvy kids can be so helpful ❤️ 3y
Tera66 @Eggs Right?! My 19 year old cousin helped me set up my mom's when she got a new phone, but he moved out of state now that I need him. Lol!😏 3y

I had about 20 show up for the online discussion. Afterwards, I saw these messages. I really don't know whether to laugh or cry. Thy thought I pranked them.

Preparing mentally to student teach high school next week. I am both nervous and excited. I initially wanted to become an ENL high school teacher. I'm not so sure now... I've taught children ages 3-7 for about two years. I feel like I'm not ready... yet. For students who are 99% taller than me 😂😂#TeachersOfLitsy

Cinfhen Best of luck 😊 8y

kspenmoll How is the student teaching going? 8y
LauraKath @kspenmoll Well my experience last semester was super amazing. I cried on my last day. I wanted to be there forever. I'm not sure yet about the next one but Im hoping for a similar experience. 8y
kspenmoll Keep me posted. I teach in a high school Resource Room but also co teach 9th grade English, which I love & also at times, 9th grade World History. Most of my student teaching had been elementary which I loved. I never envisioned myself in a HS, but I took a job following a student from 8th grade to HS graduation- ended up staying in HS after that & cannot imagine going back! Life is funny...Best of luck & enjoy! (edited) 8y
LauraKath @kspenmoll Definitely! I will need lots of help 🙈 I think you were destined to that job! What do you enjoy the most about being in HS? Or more precisely, what made you stay? 8y

Here's my #ReadingEquipment
✔️A dog (Ginger has been my reading companion for the past 5 years)
✔️Either my kindle or a book (duh!)
✔️A bookmark
✔️A colored pen to underline quotes to look foward for when I re-read the book.
✔️Coffee! (Not picture here, but it was a photo with coffee or the dog. Ginger HATES the smell of coffee. Funny thing is, she was born in Colombia 🤣)
