#PoetryMatters - Dark: I enjoy the photo challenges on Litsy, because they reacquaint me with some books/poems/authors that I haven‘t read in many years. The challenges necessitate a good look at your books owned or borrowed and other reading materials. I‘ve been spending time with poetry anthologies purchased years ago while I was in school and it‘s joyous to be amongst their pages again and to have validation of why I never got rid of them!😁
There's a certain slant of light,
On winter afternoons,
That oppresses, like the weight
Of cathedral tunes.
Heavenly hurt it gives us;
We can find no scar,
But internal difference
Where the meanings are.
None may teach it anything,
'Tis the seal, despair,-
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the air.
When it comes, the landscape listens,
Shadows hold their breath;
When it goes, 't is like the distance
On the look of death.

Well, actually, I'm Kate Keogan (I had another poem accepted for publication today! 😄) but this quiz result is uncomfortably close to the truth!

My dad had no idea what giving me this little book of Dickinson poems would do. She was the first poet I ever truly loved & this is part of why. #poetry #emilydickinson
