More Beer
More Beer: A Kayankaya Thriller (2) | Jakob Arjouni
14 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
Kemal Kayankaya is the ultimate outsider among hard-boiled private eyes. Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times Book Review OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD WORLDWIDE Turkish detective Kemal Kayankaya might not know when its recycling day, but now he has to help four eco-terrorists beat a murder rap... Wisecracking PI Kemal Kayankaya cares more about sausage and beer than politics, but when hes hired to defend four eco-terrorists charged with murdering a chemical plant owner he finds himself stuck in the middle of Germanys culture wars. It doesnt take long for Kayankaya to realize that the whole situation stinks and that both the Left and the Right have blood on their hands. And is the fiery journalist Carla Reedermann dogging his steps because she smells a story, or is she after something more? A hardboiled noir in the Chandler tradition that also provides a wry critique of contemporary racial and environmental politics, More Beer shows why Jakob Arjounis series of Kayankaya novels has become a bestselling international sensation. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Pickpick

This is a narrow pick. I enjoyed most of this short hard-boiled PI tale, but the conclusion was completely dissatisfying and the misogyny was almost unbearable. For a book written in the 1980s, it has all the disdain for women that you read in a Chandler or Hammett novel. I own the rest of the series, so I‘m sure I‘ll finish it, but I think it‘s going to be awhile before I pick up book 3. #Bailey kept me company while I finished. 💖

The rest of my #bookmail today was undamaged, thankfully. Arjouni is a #blameitonlitsy buy because I would never have even heard of him if not for @ChasingOm Thank you, Lacey! I loved Happy Birthday, Turk, and I‘m looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

Just found out there is a place called Books and Brews with books for sale AND beer named after famous characters and I can barely (barley?) contain my excitement https://www.booksnbrews.com

JoyNorstrom Dang! I‘m sad there isn‘t one closer to where I live. I suppose I‘ll have to plan a trip now 😊 6y
Bloomingjen I live about 45 mins away from one and never knew about it @JoyNorstrom (edited) 6y

Wife Not a beer 🍺 drinker, but I would try one of those. @Kelican17 maybe research where we can get one? 7y
Kelican17 @Wife of course we can! 🍻#cheersandbeers 7y
Kshakal @Wife @Kelican17 I am so not a beer drinker either and I loved it... I also tried a sea dog (a wheat ale infused with blueberry) and that was very tasty as well! 7y
Kelican17 @Kshakal i love beer! The darker, the better. I have been searching for years to find something that @Wife will drink. So far no luck. 7y

For once I'm glad I don't have a book with me! Met some friends at a brewery for a bluegrass festival. My friends son decided to go cat on us and swipe the table which resulted in a full beer knocked in my lap ?. Any book would have been ruined. This was taken BEFORE said incident. Ezekiel was so proud to have a root"beer" and be like mommy and daddy.

josie281 I have an Ezekiel too 🙃 7y
LibrarianJen @josie281 awesome 🙌🏼! His middle name is David and we call him Zeek or Z-man for short. Our daughter is Charlotte Luz. 7y
josie281 Z orZeke is ours for short :) 7y
Yournewfriendsams Omg Zeek's smile is everything ❤️ 7y
LibrarianJen @Yournewfriendsams he has dimples too. It's really hard to say no to the kid. 7y

Ballast Point opened an East Coast facility right outside of Roanoke, and my husband has managed to drag me away from reading for the afternoon. Luckily, he's driving 😜 #lessbooksmorebeer

For anyone in the Denver area, I'm visiting and this place is the best. Fiction Beer Company. Beers themed after books, really tasty and intriguing flavors, and a little free library inside. I'm in heaven 😻🍺

brittanyreads I want to go. Like right now. 😂 7y
