Can anyone recommend a good book club subscription for kids? My nephew is going to be 9 next week (3rd grade) and I‘d like to sign him up for one. Thanks!

Jennick2004 Good question!!! Unless you look up a good book list and just send him a book from it every month 😉 6y
Jilly6183 @Jennick2004 Thanks! If I don‘t find a good subscription box this is a good back up. And thanks for the link because otherwise I‘d have no idea what is appropriate for his age 😂 6y

Jerdencon Amazon has a prime book subscriptions for kids also 6y
Jennick2004 😱 I didn‘t know that @Jerdencon !! Is it just kindle-based or do they get a physical book? 6y
Kayla.Adriena Page 1 has a book subscription for kids, supposed to be customized by them. 6y
Kayla.Adriena I'm looking to see if I have a referral/discount code 6y
Jilly6183 @Jerdencon Wow, that looks promising. Have you used it? @Jennick2004 I just looked it up and it's 2 physical books every 1, 2, or 3 months! 6y
Jilly6183 Oh cool, thanks! @Kayla.Adriena 6y
GripLitGrl Try looking at OwlCrate Jr https://www.owlcrate.com/owlcratejr 6y
Jerdencon @Jilly6183 @Jennick2004 it‘s physical hardcover books - we‘ve gotten one month so far and my 9 year old son has liked both books. I signed up for every 3 months so will stick with it for now. 6y
Jilly6183 I will look into, thanks @GripLitGrl! And good to know, @Jerdencon thanks! 6y

Today's #freewrite -- one of my students exclaimed in horror: "I'll be almost 40!" #teachersofLitsy

scripturient The horror, the horror! 😂😂 Well, I'm forty and it didn't even hurt. 😊 8y
AThousandLives87 Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!😂😂😂 8y
Gezemice I do recall being a kid and meeting a 19 year old, thinking he was REALLY old. lol 8y

Reviewsbylola Lol! I am pretty much right where my teenage self thought I would be. But it's not quite been 20 years! (and yes, that would have seemed super old to me). 8y
OrangeMooseReads LOL 😂😂 8y
MyNamesParadise I'm scared to think about the future. I do it until the point I get sick 8y
CouronneDhiver Oh gosh... I'll be old. Lol 8y

Today's freewrite prompt with a double dose of caffeine 🤓 #teachersofLitsy

JSW Well already I'm honest and people don't trust me, so... 🤔 8y
Lynnsoprano Wow, you are making the prompts I used to give my kids look so pedestrian 😊 8y
MyNamesParadise But if you're dishonest and that's proven...why would people trust you? I have to be honest because I can't be any other way. People have always trusted me though. In fact they trust me to tell them the hard truth so they come to me when they have a crisis. I'm basically a therapist for all my friends. 8y
See All 16 Comments
BookishMarginalia @JSW @Lynnsoprano @MyNamesParadise The kids had fun thinking of possible scenarios that twisted the prompt around (most had trouble thinking in terms of absolute trust or distrust, honesty or lies) 8y
CocoReads Hm, I could think of someone who's dishonest and yet people trust him. It baffles me and yet... 8y
RaeRae This is difficult because I hate it when I lie, but I also hate it when people don't believe me. I guess I'd end up going with being honest though. 8y
CrowCAH Dishonest, with people trusting me. 8y
Bette What a timely proposition. 8y
Texreader Honest. I've rarely cared what most other people think of me. (Does that sound awful?) It's how I feel about myself that matters most. Can I live with myself? Good question!!!! 8y
Texreader @CocoReads Yep wonder if we are thinking of the same someone. 8y
Tamra Honest - too hard to keep track of lies, which we're experiencing in reality. 😒 8y
CocoReads @Texreader could be. Maybe so. Does the number 45 ring a bell? 8y
Texreader @CocoReads Ding ding ding! Yes! 8y
CouronneDhiver Honest. 8y
melbeautyandbooks @CocoReads @Texreader - Y'all are definitely on to something with that # 45. 8y
Laalaleighh Ok. Odd one out here. If I'm honest and people don't trust me im useless. If I'm dishonest and people do trust me, at least I could use the trust for good and make the dishonesty a tool rather than a character flaw. All about intention and efficacy to me. 🙈 8y

Today's #freewrite prompt -- most of my students said "no one!" because of fears of being judged. #teachersofLitsy

Tamra Thought provoking question! 8y
Paperback.Propensity Ooooh that's a good one! 8y
saresmoore This makes me uncomfortable. 8y
See All 17 Comments
Bookladylinda Interesting!!!!!! 🤔🤔🤔🤔 8y
Tamra I would say my husband, but he might not like every thought! 😂 Imagine the discord this could cause in all kinds of relationships! 8y
OrangeMooseReads Nobody. Not out of fear of judgment but because I think bad things about people some times and I don't need them knowing my instant thoughts or what I honestly think about them, some things are best left unknown/unsaid. I also have embarrassing things in my thoughts that nobody will EVER know lol. 8y
MicheleinPhilly ABSOLUTELY NO ONE! 8y
merelybookish I'm with the students. No one! 8y
LeahBergen Not. A. Soul. 😂 8y
TrishB Definitely no one! 8y
CrowCAH Haven't found the right person to completely trust, so no one at this time. 8y
BooksAtNight Does it have to be human? I'll be the cat person in the room and say my cats. They already judge me so it's not I lose anything. Plus, opposable thumbs means they still have to put up with me! 8y
IamIamIam I barely have a filter when I speak so you can only imagine what goes on in my head first!!!! Lol, definitely nobody, not even my husband!!! 8y
RealBooks4ever No one, I flatly don't trust anyone for anything! 😜 8y
CouronneDhiver Good grief... can you imagine?! 😜 Definitely no one... 8y
MoniqueChristine No one. I have depression and anxiety and I wouldn't wish that nonsense on anyone. Because let's be real, anyone who can hear my every thought would be in for one heck of bad time. On top of just having too many negative and contradictory thoughts, I'm constantly having to challenge those thoughts and dismantle them...yeah no. I don't hate anyone enough X-D 8y
BookishMarginalia @Monique Yep, I'd have a lot of that too. And @BooksAtNight You have a point! 8y

So, a question for you book-counting Littens... I know that this is really a matter of personal preference so I am just curious how others do this. I have a 9 year old who I still read aloud to and I also lead a book club for our homeschool group so I read a fair amount of middle-grade books. But I haven't been tracking/counting them in my personal list. Should I go ahead and add them to my list? I think I might this year. What say you, Littens?

Joybishoptx I would. 8y
bookwrm526 I say yes! If you journal you can always keep count of them separately - or, I keep my list in a spreadsheet and I have different colors of text for audio versus ebook versus physical book 8y
CocoReads Every book I read counts. So I would. (edited) 8y

WhatDeeReads I read middle grade books just because and I count them. 8y
Pelican71 That's a good question. In the past I have not. I read chapter books weekly with my third graders. Mmm 🤔. Though in most cases we are reading together or taking turns. 8y
Bookworm54 You should definitely note them down. You can always do stats with and without them included if you feel like it's cheating ☺ I would personally count them though. 8y
christineandbooks I don't know why I never thought to count them before. I guess because mostly I am not choosing them for myself but for someone else. But that seems silly. I am reading the entire book. I am reading great fiction. I am enjoying them just as if I had chosen them for myself. I should count them. Just never thought to... Enjoying hearing people's thoughts about this... 8y
awishman I read a lot of middle grade, both on my own and with my kids. I just love it! I do "count" them too. To me, children's books can be as profound and life-changing as any other kind of literature. 8y
auntie_jenn i count them - so fun to pass titles back and forth with nieces and nephew. 8y
LauraBrook Absolutely! A book is a book! 8y
Laura317 I totally count those books! All books!! 8y
saresmoore I agree with @LauraBrook ! I won't be logging most picture books because my number would be insane, but middle grade chapter books should totally count! 8y
christineandbooks (Now I kinda want to go back and see how many of those titles I can remember from last year...) But seriously, I love the idea of color-coding my books-read list by genre/type. I might have to add that to my book journaling... 8y
Blueberry I used to have this same dilemma as a homeschooler with numerous bookclubs. I ultimately decided to list all chapter books. Except I did include all-time favorite picture books. 8y
mom2bugnbee I count my middle grade books. There are lots out there! 8y
Cortg I count chapter books (middle grade and YA) but I don't count pictures books. I read a lot of picture books for storytime at work. Some people count picture books but O would definitely count middle grade chapter books. 8y
SusaninTX Count them all! 8y
christineandbooks Thanks everyone! 8y
LiteraryinPA I'm a middle school English teacher and am often reading middle grade or YA books to see if I want to have them in my class library, recommend them to kids, etc. I totally count them for Litsy purposes (and often review them too!). Middle grade books are often fun for adult readers, I find! 8y
