Sad, but meaningful. Reminded me of my own trip to Lake Atitlan!

Day 11 #FallIntoBooks #NeverForget I moved to Hawaii in 2001 about 5 months before 9/11. I remember waking up to the news reports & feeling alone & cut off from everyone. These 3 books feature 9/11. The tagged book has the effects of the towers falling & unrelated crash of AA Flight 578 on a Bell Harbor, NY neighborhood that lost so many. The 2nd book is a true account of a woman who pretended to be in the towers & the 3rd is in my #TBR pile. 💙❤️
For a book with a lot of heartbreak, loss, secrets and guilt, there was hope and a beautifully told story. Told in past & present from the POVs of Lu & her mother Mari, this book skillfully weaves in Guatemalan folklore & history & magical realism into current events. It captured both my imagination & heart. Paired w/ Rice & Beans in Coconut Milk for my book tour review, I have a copy to giveaway on the blog (post link in comments) so stop by.📚👍
Book mail is always wonderful to get but even more awesome when it comes with a little extra like this one I am reviewing for book tour in December. Aren't these worry dolls that match the colorful cover a fun touch?! #bookmail #bookschwag 📚📬❤️
