Italy, 1943--Germany occupies much of the country, placing the Jewish population in grave danger during World War II. As children, Eva Rosselli and Angelo Bianco were raised like family but divided by circumstance and religion. As the years go by, the two find themselves falling in love. But the church calls to Angelo and, despite his deep feelings for Eva, he chooses the priesthood. Now, more than a decade later, Angelo is a Catholic priest and Eva is a woman with nowhere to turn. With the Gestapo closing in, Angelo hides Eva within the walls of a convent, where Eva discovers she is just one of many Jews being sheltered by the Catholic Church. But Eva can't quietly hide, waiting for deliverance, while Angelo risks everything to keep her safe. With the world at war and so many in need, Angelo and Eva face trial after trial, choice after agonizing choice, until fate and fortune finally collide, leaving them with the most difficult decision of all.

Amy Harmon never disappoints. This one started out a bit slow for me but it could have been my head space at that moment because it picked up quickly and I was hooked. I loved the ending.

I have yet to be disappointed by an Amy Harmon historical fiction. She is also so good at writing realistic, but swoony romance, that has the perfect amount of steaminess without verging into smut. This historical romance follows musician Eva, an Italian Jew, and her childhood friend, Catholic priest Angelo, as they fall in love, survive, and resist fascism amidst the Mussolini regime and Nazi occupation before and during WW2.

Saknicole Yesssss! Move Amy Harmon! I knew the one legged priest would do it for you. 12mo

Samantha: thank you for the box of goodies! The timing is perfect for the fluffy socks as we are going to dip into the 20s this weekend. I don‘t own a pair quite so fluffy so I‘ll be using them tomorrow night! Thank you for the calendar, bookmarks, and phone grip, but especially the books. That‘s why I loved this swap because it matches our favorite genres—I can‘t wait to read books you‘ve loved. Thanks again!! #bestof2021swap

monalyisha I love that your violet socks match your “violet” book! Happy 2022! 💜✨🎉 3y
sblbooks @monalyisha The Amy Harmon was set in Italy, so that book and calendar go together too. 3y
sblbooks @Texreader I'm glad like everything! I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did. They are two of my favorite authors. 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫Set in Italy, Harmon‘s book highlights the Catholic Church‘s involvement in protecting Jewish people during WWII.
This is an emotional story that focuses more on the relationship between the main characters than details of the war itself, but the ending didn‘t have the emotional “punch” I was anticipating.
A good, easy to read book and one I would definitely recommend, but not the best WWII fiction out there.

This was a wonderful book, I must admit I knew nothing of what happened to Jews in Italy during WWII. I don‘t usually enjoy love stories much but this has a lovely story running through it. Some very sad moments also but beautifully written

This book is dragging. I kept falling asleep in the middle of this book. Maybe I‘m exhausted. It doesn‘t normally take me more than two days to finish a book at the most.😳

Just when I thought I would never want to read another book set around World War II, I find this gem. It never ceases to amaze me how one event spawned so many interesting stories. This book is about Catholics who hid Jews from the Nazis when they occupied Italy. There is also a secondary storyline of unrequited love that is very well done. All in all, I would say this is a great piece of historical fiction.

I had a bit of trouble getting into this book at first. I found it a bit slow to start out, but it eventually picked up and turned into a heartbreaking love story during WW2 in Italy. I really liked how the author wove actual events and people into the fictional tale. Definitely another must-read from Amy Harmon! #LitsyAtoZ #LetterF #LitsyReadingChallenge #LRC13

Amazing! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I have read very little about Italy during WWII so reading about how the Catholic Church helped protect and hide the Italian Jews was thought provoking and inspiring. The story of Eva and Angelo was beautiful and heartbreaking and insightful all at once. This is definitely going on my list of favorites and everyone should read this book! ❤️

This one was good! I'm a sucker for historical fiction. And for love ❤️ stories. So this was a double-whammy for me. I got it in my #OnceUponaBookClubBox subscription box. I'm probably going to cancel after the boxes I have already paid for. I really like the concept of opening "gifts" as I read, but I'm just not impressed with them. I'm glad I tried it out though.

Plain and simple: I loved this book. Michelle wasn't lying when she said it was one of the best books of 2016. I literally couldn't put it down. It's the kind of book that makes you think about what everyone went through during WWII and it's such a page turner.

This book is full of beauty and tragedy. It follows two people in love and the conflict and consequences of everyone's choices. It portrays the best of worst sides of human nature. Mostly it focuses on the lengths people will go to help each other. My heart hasn't felt so much in awhile. From Sand and Ash is an epic love story that will restore your faith in humanity. #AmyHarmon #FromSandAndAsh https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1831839453

I am fascinated by the WWII and enjoy (if that's the right word!) historical fiction books centred around this time period. This one is based in Italy and shows the atrocities that happened. There were a few coincidences that were a bit hard to believe but I'll forgive the author of these as it was a good read and generally well representative of the time period.
