I haven't read anything by Lasky since I weeded Shadows in the Water from my childhood collection, and Chasing Orion was nothing like what I expected. I rarely encounter books that are haunting--poetic, yet unsettling, and that's what this is. A meditation on the specter of polio in the US in the 1950s through the eyes of a most unusual young narrator.

Good book about a teenage girl who contracted Polio and now lives in an iron lung. For her new neighbors Georgie and Emmitt, whose curiosity leads to a friendship, Phyllis is a friend they both need. Unfortunately Phyllis has ulterior motives. I would NOT have this in my elementary library. Overall I think it was a great read.
