I appreciate what I think this was trying to do, but it never quite did it. Way too short for the span of time it covers, thus remains very surface-level. Immigration, assimilation, abuse, alcoholism...all barely touched upon until the end when it feels rushed. MC‘s voice stayed mostly the same from age 4 to mid-teens, doesn‘t grow up until the end. I liked the relationships b/t mom & kids & the siblings. But not enough depth to anything. 2/5 ⭐️

This one‘s a little random—got it through SantaThing last year and I don‘t think I‘d even heard of it. It‘s super short, not sure if it‘s MG or YA because it follows a girl from 4 to 18 (in only 148 pages??). And it has no quotation marks whyyyyyyyy. Anyway it‘ll be quick! #nowreading

This book was difficult. A story about power and bodies and learning who we are. Told in an episodic, almost poetic, form this novel about immigration is so so important. 4.5/5.

Auditing a YA lit class means all of the awesome reading and none of the papers. 😂

Happy #recommendsday! May is Asian Pacific American Heritage month and we're celebrating with a display of books by Asian/Pacific authors. This is one of my favorite book and it's by a Korean author about a Korean girl who moves to America and has to deal with all the changes that comes with it. I love that this book follows the main character until she graduates high school. What are you reading this week? #teenlibrarian
